“Sitges' best restaurant”
Reviewed 4 September 2012

Just spent the last 11 days in Sitges with my partner and we do our best to try as many of the restaurants as possible rather than eat in the same place every night.

El Xalet has over the years always been consistently good food and service and this year we felt it was the best in town.

The food is thoughtfully prepared in the open kitchen where nothing can be hidden from the view of the diners and was outstanding.

The service is excellent, the staff do their utmost to please in the relaxed and beautiful setting of the garden.

This restaurant only opens in the Summer months (for obvious reasons) but it is reassuring to seen so many locals eating there which tends to be an indicator of a good restaurant.

It was so good we had to eat there twice! The menu options are either 24 euro or 35 euro set menus with wine and coffee included which is great value.

While my room in El Xalet was a not as nice as the one I have enjoyed in Noucencista (their adjoining hotel), I still rate it great on cleanliness, a good breakfast and interesting if not elaborate furnishings.

I must say it distresses me to see folks react to negatively to the lady owner. She is somewhat shy and English is far from her first language but in all three of my visits she has been polite, thorough and yes, charming. She works very hard and has always been tremendously welcoming so I would take the criticisms you might read of her with a grain of salt and consider what other's expectations can be.

Yvonne is also a wonderful lady who works the afternoons and all of the staff do their best to be accomodating and ensure you have what you need.

Three visits on, I still recommend it.

6 nights at El Xalet hotel. As we did not get the room as requested in our booking request we have received a free upgrade (decided by the Spanish lady owner - thank you for that!) but great organised by Yvonne, a UK lady welcoming the guests at the reception. BTW, Yvonne is more or less the only English speaking person in the hotel. And she is simply GREAT! This place will be missing you a lot once you leave!!! The rook was perfect for that kind of hotel. Great location. And the street is not as noisy as expected. The nice court garden with the small pool is used for the breakfast and dinners. We also enjoined the menu dinner. Good choice for reasonable price. The breakfast is OK. The only negative thing is that one would expect more guest oriented approach by the staff working there, incl. Spanish owner. Yvonne was the only one who could keep the small talk with everyone. In total the place is recommendable for everyone who do not mind walking to the beach some minutes and speak a bit Spanish to understand the local staff. We had a nice time here. Wish the same to you...

I know traditionally Spanish service is often said to be lacklustre or poor, but the lady owner really is a misery. If you don't like hospitality, don't run a hotel!
She delivers a plate for breakfast with a roll and some meat, nothing like the other hotels in sitges offer, like a choice!
The hotel is stunning, one of Sitges' most beautiful buildings. Rooms are air conditioned, and pretty. It's such a shame that the owner is a misery and rarely smiles, or acts as if she wants you to stay at her hotel.
The restaurant is reviewed separately but generally mediocre. Poor service generally, which ruins what could be an incredible venue.
Lose the lady and the hotel could be amazing. And another thing, the pool is miniature and always had the cleaning contraption on in it hopefully encouraging people not to use it!

Room Tip: Garden facing not street facing!

Well above average with great building, architecture and environs. Poor breakfast that gets served to you on a plate by the miserable hotel woman owner. Customer service isn't her best attribute but then this is Spain!
Air con, nice bathrooms, televisions and good beds.
Avoid ground floor street rooms

Me and my wife have stayed many times at hotel El Xalet, and we love the place.
The building and the rooms are fantastic.
It is close to both the station, centrum and the beach.
The family who owns the hotel is very friendly and helpful.
And the food the serve at nights in the lovely garden is marvelous.
We have just booked a week in june 2012, for a new stay.
And we can´t wait to get back.

I love this charming hotel and was delighted to stay in the same room as last time.

On this occasion I met the lovely Yvonne who is the sole English speaking staff person (although the others do their best and are as helpful as they can be).

I can't add much more to what I wrote from my stay last year except to say DO NOT MISS THE RESTAURANT! Of all seven nights I spent in Sitges, our meal at El Xalet was hands down the best. They offer an terrific 3 course menu including wine and coffee for 24 Euros which is unbeatable in terms of value and quality. The outdoor ambience of sitting in the garden on a warm summer evening is also quite special. Kudos to all!

My only minor complaint would be that breakfast doesn't start until 9:00 am and for those like myself who like to hit the beach early I had to miss it on several mornings. Still, that's a minor complaint and it forced my try some of the excellent bakeries/cafes on the way to the beach that I may have otherwise missed.

All in all, a superb experience!
