“Chilly reception”
Reviewed 13 December 2008

The hotel itself was in a great location, near to the train station and the beautiful old town. Be careful when you book as they automatically give you a twin room, Even if you specifically ask for a double. When asked to change, the reception staff were not very helpful or polite - they gave us a frosty welcome too. The room was very cold and even when the heating was on, we didn't feel any benefit. The decor was fine and we had a nice view.
Tarragona itself is a beautiful place with many hidden delights, such as the Roman Circus which is right next to the hotel. It was easy enough to get a bus directly from Reus to Tarragona bus station which is a bout a 10 minute walk to the hotel and costs 3 euros each way. They are not very regular though but there are plenty of cabs outside and the journey to Tarragona will cost about 25 euros. To get to Barcelona on the train it is just over an hour and costs 10 euros return.

Having read the previous reviews before our recent visit to the Hotel Husa Imperial Tarraco, I was very pleasantly surprised on arrival. The hotel is of a high standard, not at all as dated and shabby as other reviews would suggest. The rooms and public areas were immaculate. Staff were both professional and courteous and went out of their way to help where they could.
This hotel was exceptionally good value for money, in an excellent location and the breakfast was more than adequate providing a vast variety of cold and hot food in a lovely bright breakfast room.

I would recommend the Husa Imperial to anyone who enjoys a higher standard than average hotel in a beautiful city and look forward to returning early next year.

My husband and I had the misfortune to stay at this hotel last September. We had requested a quiet room - the hotel staff didnt bother to tell us that there was a huge music festival on in the town while we were staying - music and noise from the streets every night till about 5am!!! We complained and were put in another room but still noisy there. The hotel itself wasnt very impressive either - dated and tired looking. Rooms very basic. As for the staff........ incredibly rude!!!! Tarragona itself is really beautiful - would recommend a visit there but choose a different hotel!!

At a stunning location at the junction of the old and new towns, overlooking the Med, the hotel is a modern blot on the landscape in an otherwise fascinating town. This is a soulless commercial hotel furnished in 1970s style with a casino attached. Rooms just about adequate but carpet trampled and fraying and bath worn. Furniture Coop style, desperately in need of update. These problems would not have mattered all that much because of the stunning view of the Roman amphitheatre and blue sea if service had been warm but it was offhand and functional.

Breakfast standard Eurobrek, one can do a lot better in a cafe in the placa. Didn't risk eating a meal there.

This hotel was arranged for us local people who said it had the best reputation in town; must be living on past glories.

This was a great hotel overall, from location to accomodation. We arrived during a festival so the town was crowded and loud, but we still loved it!
We did find the front desk staff to initally be rude, when I requested a sea view, which I had also done when I made the reservation, the guy laughed at me and said they were all booked up. There was a festival going on in town so how silly of me to ask. Turns out our room had a small terrace which looked out from the side of the hotel so we could still see the ocean. That was good enough for us.
During our stay I asked the front desk advice on where to eat and to phone ahead to confirm our hotel for the next town. They redeemed themselves as they were very nice and helpful at that point.
The room itself was clean and very comfortable. There was quite a bit of room and a ton of closet space if you want to unpack.
The location was perfect, right in between the Old and New Rambla. The town was crazy busy for this festival but I don't think it is normally that way? The only downside to this festival is that an outside band played until 2:30am, so it was a little hard to sleep. The hotel did have signs up to warn their guests, so it was not a surprise.
Overall I would recommend this hotel for sure, as a matter of fact, I don't think we even saw any other hotels nearby that looked decent. This is the place to stay.

We stayed for a week at this hotel and as I'd been to Tarragona previously we mainly choose the hotel for the location.

The location is about the only good thing about this hotel as everything else, from the 1970's decor within the rooms to the appallingly rude staff, let the hotel down. If you get a room at the front of the hotel (which we eventually did after complaining about the initial room that we were dumped in to, overlooking some run-down flats) then the view is superb, with the Ampitheatre below and overlooking the sea.

However, the staff are about the rudest that you'll come across in any establishment and whilst they're looking down their noses at you they need a sharp reminder of what customer focused service actually is!

April 2007, My boyfriend and I recently stayed at the Husa Imperial Taracco for 4 days in late April. Though the weather was unusually cool for Spain this time of year, the hotel was very nice. The staff was extremely helpful and polite. The complimentary breakfast included not only cafe and juice, but a vast array of petite pastries, eggs, bacon, a selection of cold cuts, cheeses, and cereal enough to feed an army of tourists.
The hotel rooms were small, but very clean. We requested a room with a double bed prior to our trip and thankfully received it. Tarragona itself boasts access to ancient romanesque ruins and tourist attractions. This town is quaint and quite, really nice for a relaxing vacation. The only slight problem we had was when we arrived by train, the hotel was difficult to locate. All my research indicated that this hotel was on the top of a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean one block away from the train station. A tip for all of you who come to this location by train....when you leave the train station, go right and follow the road up the hill that winds around the sea. At the end of this road you will see the hotel, but be forewarned that it is a steep climb and if you have heavy luggage, I highly suggest getting a cab from the train station. It should not cost you more then 10 euros. The other option of course is to climb the set of stairs you see from the train station...not fun with luggage. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel to all who visit Tarragona....especially those who have a love for cats as they are everywhere in this town.
