We selected this hotel due to the price...the location is completely lousy for any sort of sightseeing around La Coruna...but then again, taxis are easy to get and not too expensive.
We had planned to spend only one night here, the last night of our time in Spain, before we flew to London for a couple days before returning to the U.S. However, we both got sick while traveling and decided to skip London and just stay 3 nights here to rest and get well before flying to London to catch our flight home.
4 star hotel...good price...we entered and our first impression was of the least cozy hotel lobby imaginable...all conference hotel feeling...cavernous lobby with bar, restaurant, and seating area that opens up to the rooms above..think rooms in a circle looking down on the lobby below. Huge, sterile business like place...
We checked in to the practically deserted hotel, and the friendly guy at the desk told us that because the hotel was "full" we were being upgraded to a junior suite. OK....hard to believe this giant hotel was full when there was literally nobody in the giant echoing lobby space....but, hey, a free upgrade.
The room seemed nice...It had a separate tv/ living room space with a couple of couches, coffee table, mini bar, etc. and the adjacent bedroom had another tv and a small workspace....the tv in the bedroom didn't work. We called, and they said...We selected this hotel due to the price...the location is completely lousy for any sort of sightseeing around La Coruna...but then again, taxis are easy to get and not too expensive.

We called, and they said someone could come up the next day to look at it...Nobody was available that day...we wanted the tv by the bed because we were sick and planned to just veg out in bed.
Alas, our excitement about our "junior suite" ended when we woke up after morning number one in room 711, and my husband said, I think there is a mosquito in here...I got bit...I looked, and his back and shoulders were covered with 13...THIRTEEN....giant, red, swollen, welts...I said, 'um....sweetie...that was no mosquito..." There were no mosquitoes in the room.
We had no idea where else to stay in town, and we were both sick with no energy to move, so we went to the lobby and I told the guy we had to change rooms because my husband had been bit...at first, my reference to "chinches" in the room seem to cause the guy to smirk a bit....but when I asked my husband to show him his shoulder...the guy's attitude changed and he said, "I'm sorry", and said, "you'll need a new room"....um...yeah.
so we changed rooms, back to the standard kind we were supposed to have, and for the next couple of nights, no problems....
At first, I wasn't going to write about this, because bed bugs can happen anywhere...I know that. We travel a lot. And I appreciated that the staff were apologetic and just moved us...
But, on further thought, I decided that I have no idea if the staff went ahead and did anything about treating the room. I can only assume they did....but people ought to know that in July 2009, at least, there were definitely bed bugs in room 711....
I can't rate the place poor. It is not poor. If not for the bed bugs, I would not have such negative feelings about the place...And any hotel...ANY hotel can get bed bugs...so I am ambivalent about writing about it...but if it is an ongoing problem, then people need to know. The location however stinks...And bottom line, I wouldn't go back due to the bed bugs, the location, and the sheer cavernous feeling...I prefer a cozier place.More
