Gran Hotel Los Abetos
Certificate of Excellence

Chose this hotel because it was one of the few with a pool, a must if you are travelling with children. Bedroom was nice and spacious and well maintained. Food in the hotel was good and there was a great choice for breakfast in the morning. The hotel was well kept and there were nice grounds that you could walk around. Would definitely stay here again if I was in the area.

After a long and demanding Pilgrimage, we finally arrived in Santiago de Compestella and spent our first night in an Albergue, received our Compestella, and decided to spend the next night in a hotel. While on the Way, we picked up a brochure (I don't remember where) for the Hotel Los Abetos which offered a special rate for Pilgrims. We could not have been happier. The accommodations were excellent, the room was clean, the hotel staff was friendly and helpful, and the breakfast buffet was excellent. Unfortunately, we did not have time to visit the spa, but if it is anything like the rest of the hotel, I am sure it is stellar. They offer a free shuttle service to the city center and have a pool, gym, sauna, tennis court and free wifi. I would highlyrecommend this facility.

Easily the best value of our trip through Spain and Portugal at 72 euros including breakfast. Luxurious room and bath, excellent view. Comfortable beds. We were wowed by the multiple English speaking stations on TV - a far cry from the usual 1 or 2 in most hotels. Dinner menu was limited but the servings were well prepared and tasty. Breakfast was bountiful. Easy on/off the freeway. Free shuttle/return from the city center. Quiet. Our go-to hotel when we return.

Room Tip: Visit Santiago when it's not raining cats and dogs.

Our 4th stay in the hotel did not disappoint.
Although a 10 minute drive from the city centre, the free shuttle bus until 9pm makes the hotel perfect for this location.
Beautiful well appointed large bedrooms with two twin beds in each. Massive baths in the en-suites and very clean.

The hotel is located about 15 min by car from the old town. We had a rental car so the location was fine for us. Parked 3 blocks from the San Sebastian de Compostela Cathedral. But the hotel location could be an inconvenience for others. We heard rumblings about the hotel bus being inconvenient from a couple of people but have no first hand knowledge. On the other hand there were a number of pilgrims at the hotel and they didn't think twice about walking to the old town. We liked the hotel. We had a split level suite with a downstairs living area and an upstairs bedroom. It was very clean and comfortable. The staff is friendly and helpful. Good restaurant but not great. Large portion sizes. Moderately priced. Great breakfast included (eggs, bacon, fruits, breads etc. etc.) It has a sparely outfitted fitness center which I didn't use as we walked many miles through the old city and surrounding areas. They have a pool which we also didn't use due to rainy conditions and frankly a lack of available time on our part. Two things. First as you can see the hotel is moderately priced. Its a great value. Second and more importantly we (and probably you) wanted to spend our time in old town and in particular the San Sebastian de Compostela Cathedral. That was the focus for us and it was well worth it. Amazing really. So we are happy with our experience at this hotel and recommend it. I would recommend you talking to the hotel in advance (or email) about transportation to/from the old city to make sure that it fits with your needs.

Room Tip: There are different types of rooms depending our your needs. We picked the so called suite to give...

This hotel merits its four star rating. The grounds are lovely and the pool was an asset, however it was very small and only attended on one day of our five day stay there. As stated the courtesy bus is great, though the times of availability are limited, especially at night and is not available at all on a Sunday.Breakfast was lovely.
Accommodation was very good. Our room was in the block facing the hotel and was on 2 levels. It was clean and spacious and had 2 tv's but with only one English speaking station, an American business station. Our veranda was perfect with great sun in the evenings.
My one major difficulty with this hotel is that none of the serving staff spoke English and communication proved very difficult. Even reception staff had limited English. I do not expect all staff to have MY language over another but feel that menus, hotel information and maps should be available in more languages than Spanish.

Room Tip: The rooms in the building across from the main nhotel have a bedroom, living room and spacious veran...

We had a nice stay at Los abetos...rooms were clean, and having a pool available was fantastic! The shuttle service was a great help, but returning to the hotel via shuttle was difficult (as there weren't many pick up times). As others have said, I'd recommend this hotel if you have a car.
