“Wonderful Hospitality”
Reviewed 16 September 2013

We arrived hot and frazzled having struggled to find the hotel. The man on reception sent us into the tranquil garden with a beer (complimentary) to cool off. This we did admirably and soon recovered our sense of humour. The hotel is easy to find if you turn off the Avenue Xuan VVIII at the lights and stop at the bollards into the old town the reception will let you in. You can then securely park your car 5 - 10 minutes walk away. The hotel is really lovely. Comfortable beds, clean towels, loads of hot water. Our room had a gallery with sofa and table overlooking the garden. The garden does get busy in the afternoons with people having drinks and coffee, but we always found a space and it was never intrusive. We thought the breakfasts were great, loved the local bread with oil and tomatoes, the croissants and honey and the almond cake were all super. The staff could not have been better, friendly and helpful but not overbearing. They lent us a booklet in English with recommendations for restaurants, sightseeing and excursions. Yves Rocher toiletries were a nice touch, as was the library on the second floor. would certainly recommend this hotel for visitors to this charming city.

I stayed here with friends in June, and chose the hotel based on TA reviews. The communication with the hotel was excellent, and friendly.

The hotel is just on the edge of the old town and in an old and charming building. I liked the idea of being able to sit in the garden in the afternoon.

The rooms that we had were overlooking the street, and mine was in the attic. We were there during a 'hot spell' and the room I was in was stifling. A fan had been put in the room but it was still extremely stuffy. My friends were on a lower floor, they also had a fan and had french windows opening on to the street, but this in one of the main routes into the city, and there are taxis and delivery lorries ( and refuse carts ) from early in the morning - which made a nights sleep difficult.

The breakfast in the garden was charming, but basic. I dont eat cheese, but it was offered every morning, and no alternative if you didnt want it. Also the staff were over run. The hotel allows non guests to use the garden and have breakfast and on one morning one waitress was serving 19 tables. The poor woman was working her socks off, and with a smile, but it did seem ridiculous and detracted from any advantage of having stayed in the hotel.

This was the same in the afternoon/evening where we could not get a table in the garden as it was full with mainly non hotel guests.

So the staff were lovely, the hotel is in a good location , and its an OK price. However I wont be going back there as I would try another hotel, and pop in to use the garden here if I fancied it.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back which would have a view, and be quieter.

This hotel is just as pictured on the website and here. Very historic, romantic building on the edge of the old town. The gardens are indeed an oasis of tranquility in a very crowded and touristy town. Absolutely wonderful friendly and helpful staff. The guys at the front desk spoke good English but the rest very cheerfully spoke Spanish. If you are driving to the hotel ask for directions ahead of time. The approach to the hotel is very easy but only if you know which street to turn on and to run in and ask the staff to lower the barrier. We didn't and neither our gps or google maps on my ipad GED us to the right street. Our rooms were on the third floor - which was actually the fourth floor up. A bit of a hike as there is no elevator although the front desk staff got upset when we brought our bags down to check out as that was "their" job. Breakfasts were wonderful - the setting, service and food. No air conditioning so we had the window open. Not a problem as it isn't overly hot here. However, we did hear the church bells ringing loudly and clearly at about 6 am. Noise seems pretty well unavoidable in Spain.

Room Tip: Probably a lower floor would be cooler, quieter and easier to access.

Although I did not stay at this hotel, I discovered it while looking for a breakfast spot. The waitress was pleasant and very efficient while busy. The staff of the hotel offered assistance with questions regarding the city. The breakfast was very good. This is a real find for a bite to eat in a charming atmosphere... what a beautiful hotel.

our group arrived in late june. we needed three rooms. each room was so inviting and clean. the courtyard and garden was such a nice spot to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine, along with drinks and snacks. the people who work there are helpful. there is one man there who goes out of his way to be informative about his city. i hope i get an opportunity to visit santiago de compostela again, and i would definetly book my overnight stay at this hotel!

I was wandering around the old city and found this lunch spot. Great garden, cheap cervesa and awesome staff. Wish we had a place like this in Sydney! We didn't stay here but it looked nice. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Santiago.

We stayed 4 nights in this lovely small hotel just inside the old city. The welcome was tremendously friendly and all the way through the stay the staff could not do enough for us.

The garden is a lovely place for breakfast or an afternoon drink (also into the evening). It is great for residents and also for anyone the bar is one of the more secluded places in the city.

We had a room at the front of the hotel for the first 2 nights which can be a bit noisy with pilgrims or revellers on their way back out of the old town. So ask for a garden facing room on the top floor and live with small amount extra to pay.

Overall a great place highly recommended and we will be going back next year when we do the Camino Ingles.

Room Tip: Rooms at back of hotel are to be chosen if available
