“Excellent stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 April 2014

I needed somewhere to stay for one night having finished the Camino de Santiago earlier than planned. I had a room on the top floor which had character and was just what I was hoping to find in Santiago. The highlight of the stay was the breakfast which I took in the beautiful garden which has views over the San Francisco monastery. The staff were all incredibly helpful and friendly. I would definitely stay here again and loved being so close to the Cathedral and bars/restaurants in Santiago.

I stayed here for one night in September 2013 and it was even better than I anticipated. It is a lovely small hotel with a gorgeous patio/garden. Service was very good and the hotel was clean and comfortable with lots of character and ambiance. It is in an excellent location in Santiago, easy walking distance to everything.....l simply loved it.

Had read some great reviews of this small hotel so decided to book. It was a great choice, really friendly staff, lovely breakfast, fantastic views and comfy beds. Good location too being in the main historic pedestrianised area of the city. Shame we had lousy weather but the warmth of the local people made up for it.

It was with some trepidation that I arrived in Santiago de Compostela, as my husband revealed he had not actually booked a hotel for our 5 night stay. A visit to the tourist information soon rectified this and the Costa Vella turned out to be a lucky find.
The manager gave us a great deal and our room overlooked the beautiful garden which was full of statues, a pond piled high with fallen apples and plants still in bloom in November.
The room was very clean and comfortable, staff very welcoming and breakfast was continental but very good.
When the bar opened at 8am, it was well frequented by locals who popped in for coffee and cake on their way to work.
We loved our stay at this small, intimate hotel.

We stayed at the Hotel Costa Vella for two nights in July. It is not a 5 star hotel. Our room was small but clean and comfortable, with a gallery and a view of the garden. There is no air conditioning but it did have an efficient fan and you could open the windows. The windows faced west and the temperature during the days was in the mid to high 30’s but cooled in the evenings, which helped with sleeping. It has no lift, only stairs. Despite what might normally be considered some short comings, this was one of the friendliest hotels we stayed in on our trip. In fact our stay there was one of the highlights of our trip.

The hotel is located in the Old Town and as such is close to all the places of interest, including shops and market. We were able to drive in to drop our bags then drove to paid parking outside the Old Town, which was only a short walk away. Guests from the hotel are charged a discounted fee. The garden is quite pretty and is set up with tables and chairs where a bar and kitchen service is provided. It is a very popular meeting place for both guests and non guests alike, which is not surprising since the prices were so reasonable. Their rates for accommodation and breakfast were also very reasonable indeed. Free wifi is also available.

Hosts Antonio and Roberto were a wealth of information and suggested where and when to visit, and a range of places to eat at. We also received suggested towns to visit along the way to our next destination, Santander.

All up, this was a fabulous find and we were most appreciative of the hospitality provided. We would have no hesitation in recommending Costa Vella to anyone visiting Santiago de Compostela.

Stayed for several nights in October and I can not rate this hotel highly enough! It is not 5 star but the staff were delightful and Roberto gave us excellent suggestions on places to visit as well as a number of restaurants to go to - he couldn't have been more helpful. The breakfasts were delicious and the coffee was excellent. We stayed in the room by Reception and had been warned that it could be a bit noisy; being good sleepers we were not disturbed at all, although as a warning, the floor boards above us were just a little creaky! Very clean bathroom and bedroom, both of which were big and comfortable enough for several nights; lovely to sit in the garden - an oasis in the middle of Santiago de Compostela. If I went back again, I would only stay at Hotel Costa Vella as I can not fault it in any way!
