from the moment we arrived at the hotel, we were treated so special by the staff who always had a smile on their face.
The rooms were charming and were just as they were depicted on the website. The highlight of the hotel, was the view from the breakfast room which was beutiful. A wonderful town with wonderful food, espcially if you like seafood. Dont worry if you are not sure where to eat. The hotel has several recomendations of which the two recomended to us were very good indeed and very reasonable price wise. All in all a great trip made better by a great choice of hotel, all at an inexpensive price.

Just returned from a 2 day midweek November break. What else can be said about this fantastic gem of a hotel. Rooms beautifully decorated, furnished and spotlessly clean. Finishing touches of daily bottled water and basket of sweets !!

Service from ALL of the staff was nothing short of perfection. Billed as a family hotel where, even as a single traveller, I was made to feel part of the family of staff. How they manage the substantial and varied breakfast for 5 Euro ( I couldn't finish it!) I do not know.

Location is perfect for all the Santiago sights, bars and restaurants. You may not, like myself, need the latter as Free Tapas and Healthy Portioned Racciones (what a veriety of seafood there is on offer!) kept me "Full" for the 2 days. Everything within easy walking distance of the hotel. Rear garden, terrace and bar areas are sublime. A little piece of heaven. Even the poor november weather, drizzel for 48 hours, but warm drizzel !! could not dampen my enthusiasm for this superb establishment.

For return visits I won't be looking to book anywhere else!!

Just returned from a 3 night visit with a friend to this excellent hotel. The hotel is 10 minutes from the airport by taxi and built right into the city walls with the pedestrianised city outside the front door and a lovely enclosed garden outside the back door.

We had 2 single rooms with balconies overlooking the street, each room was ensuite with shower, nicely furnished, large bed, french windows and small TV. Water, sweets and shampoo etc. provided. There is a lounge/library with great views and a telescope. The bar opens out onto a garden with fountain and numerous flowers and plants which was used by hotel guests and locals in the evening. We had breakfast in the bar which consisted of fresh orange, cereal, fresh bread, pastries and coffee for 5 euro.

The staff are excellent and helped us out with tourist information and printed out train timetables (La Coruna and Vigo close by), recommending bars/restaurants etc, always with a smile.

The hotel in it's own right would have been a great find but when you put it together with this excellent location in this town then it becomes brilliant. The town is pedestrianised and is steeped in history, with its cathedral and churches, monastries, university buildings and various historical sites plus mingled in with all this are what seems like hundreds of bars and restaurants. For 2 days we didn't buy a meal out as every bar gives you free tapas with each drink! At weekends it's particularly vibrant as the city is home to 30,000 students. What I also particularly liked was that English is not generally spoken or written so you have to try a bit of Spanish.

In summary I rate this lovely hotel in real Spain very highly and will return.

We stayed at the Costa Vella for 14 nights and would be happy to still be there now! We had read the reviews before booking and used the hotel as a base to discover the surrounding areas of Galicia, which is a very beautiful part of Spain. The communications with the hotel prior to our arrival were excellent. Jose Antonio Linares (owner with family) kindly found out about events we were interested in and emailed me information and there was a warmth in the messages which was equalled by their greeting on our arrival and throughout our visit. The hotel is small and informal, which makes it a very comfortable and welcoming place to stay. It has been very tastefully renovated in a traditional style with a very pretty mediteranean garden. (We had a room overlooking the garden with views across Santiago) It's popularity with the locals is an immediate indicator as to why people find this such a wonderful experience . Everbody is extremely kind and accommodating, and amongst the hustle and bustle of their busiest moments, there is a gentleness in the nature of the staff at all times. We organised our own days out which was not as difficult as people had suggested on the Trip Advisor Forum. 10 minutes to the bus station and 15 minutes to the train station, both of which run exceptionally clean and up to date methods of transport. Any additional information we required was promptly offered to us at the hotel. The choice of bars and restaurants in the immediate area are abundant and vary in style and price, making this a real pleasure for sampling local dishes, fantastic fish and a bottle (or two!) of Albarino or Rioja. My partner wondered when I first booked this if 14 nights was going to be too long in one place, the answer to that was quite apparant when we reluctantly left with a promise to return as soon as possible. There is an air of magic to Santiago de Compostela, and we had the privilage of enjoying that due to the professionalism and friendliness of Jose Antonio, Roberto and all of the staff at the Costa Vella... Thank you all very much!

My wife and I stayed at the Costa Vella at the beginning of October and had a warm welcome from all the staff. It's location is perfect for exploring the old own, being only five minutes walk from the cathedral. The hotel is small but very modern and clean. Lovely continental breakfast served by friendly staff. The garden is a real bonus with apple trees and a vine-covered gazebo, perfect for relaxing with a drink in the sun. The staff were very helpful in suggesting places to eat and places to visit. All this and all I had to do was email them to reserve the room and pay when we left. Thank you, Costa Vella!

We stayed in the Costa Vella for two nights at the end of July. Finding the place was a bit of a challenge and I wouldn't recommend driving around Santiago to anyone. When you get to road the hotel is on, you need to press a button on a pillar on your left to open the barrier. Then unload at the hotel & they will tell you where to park the car. On arrival we were handed our keys without much of a welcome, but the small room was nicely decorated, clean and overlooked the back garden. Breakfast in the garden each morning was nice and the place generally had a good atmosphere. I'd recommend the Costa Vella although some of the claims about it appeal are a little overstated.

We only spent one night at this friendly property near the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela. We arrived late and were greeted with an upgrade. Simple but pleasant room with two twin beds and a little alcove with a sofa. The bathroom was tight but servicable. We liked the tile floors and pleasant view out our room to the garden and, beyond, Santiago's rooftops. Roberto from the hotel was very kind and generous. Breakfast wasn't elaborate, but I can still taste the wonderful Santiago bread. Great value for money at 80 euros including breakfast and taxes, having made the reservation through the hotel website.
