“Wonderful initmate hotel”

We too booked this hotel on the basis of the reviews on this website and were not disappointed. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and simple. The location is perfect just at the start of the pedestrianised area. Complimentary sweets and water are just some of the little touches. Would stay there again without hesitation.

We booked this hotel having read the very positive reviews here. We were not dissappointed. The hotel is very clean, well run and a great location from which to explore Santiago. ( It is only a 5 min walk to the Cathedral ) The staff were very friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. What we liked most however was the lovely atmosphere of this hotel and you could easily spend an afternoon in the beautiful garden or library just reading or relaxing. We had a room with a balcony overlooking the garden and the monasteries. I would reccomend this type of room which costs a bit more but is worth it just for the views alone. The hotel is small so can be a bit noisy in the mornings, but we did not have any problem sleeping at night

I invariably refer to Trip Advisor when booking hotels and have yet to be disappointed. I booked hotel Costa Vella based on the reviews, and the hotel exceeded all my expectations. Robert welcomed us like old friends and was very helpful and forthcoming with tourist information, restaurants, trains, taxis, sights etc. The entire staff is friendly, efficient, multi-lingual and very professional. This small hotel combines very successfully the old with the new, retaining lots of character yet providing all modern conveniences. The garden with its trickling fountain (where drinks, tea/coffee are served) adds that extra dimension, creating an ambience of peace and tranquillity.

The location is excellent, views stunning, rooms spotlessly clean, well equipped and nicely decorated. Breakfast, (freshly squeezed orange juice, cereals, cheese, yoghurts, tea/coffee, toast, preserves), can be had at any time!

Locals frequent the hotel too, adding that Galician charm, tradition and character to this superb hotel.

Had an unforgetable experience - a big 'Thank you' to all at Costa Vella

Only stayed for one night in May, I could not have stayed any longer because of the noise. A party of `ladies` arrived back from town around 2am and continued to party noisily until 4am. Suffice to say the staff were very appologetic the next morning! That said the hotel is basic but clean, our room was on the 3rd floor, in the attic.
Not my favourite place but a lovely, if not particularly friendly town.

Costa Vella is a lovely family run hotel in Santiago, within walking distance of the Cathedral and historic quarter. We stayed as a group of 11 and had a wonderful time there. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The rooms are comfortable and full of character, with splendid views over the town. The garden is a haven of charm and peace where you can sit and chat over a drink. Breakfast is excellent, especially when eaten in the upstairs breakfast room, which is a traditional Galician galleria.
The hotel is difficult to find, but well worth the effort and parking is available nearby.

We stayed here for the 1st night of a weekend break (they were fully booked for the rest of our stay) & were very impressed. Our balcony room had a great view of the garden & town/hills in the distance. The room was very clean, bright & considering the price great value for money. The breakfast was also very tasty & good value. Staff are genuinley warm, friendly & very helpful.
1 minor moan - we tried to have a bit of a siesta on our 1st day after an early morning flight from the UK. Our room was next to the stairs & the noise of people coming & going between floors made it difficult to get any sleep. However, the hotel was very quiet that night & we had no problems sleeping later. Overall, we were very happy with our choice & Santiago is a great little city for a weekend visit.

Excellent hotel

We booked this hotel because of the reviews on this site and we were not disappointed.
Our party was 4 adults in two double rooms.
The hotel is situated in the Old Town and is well located for sightseeing and there are lots of excellent restaurants close by. The staff were very helpful and nothing was too much bother. They recommended two restaurants, both of which we tried and they had excellent food and good value.

There are two kinds of rooms. We had one facing the garden in the back of the hotel with a balcony and it was quiet apart from some noise from the stairs as people returned to the hotel late at night. The other room was at the front and the noise from the street went on until early morning – it was a bank holiday weekend.
It is worth paying the extra for a room overlooking the garden. The rooms are small but comfortable and very clean, and were made up twice every day.
We had breakfast in the first floor room overlooking the lovely garden.
Santiago itself is a lovely place to wander around. We were unfortunate to have poor weather during our stay but that did not spoil our visit
