“Clean, comfortable, and central”
Reviewed 2 June 2014 via mobile

This hotel is bed only, i.e. no breakfast. However it is very central and near to everything you need. Our room was fairly large and comfortable, but could have benefitted from a thorough cleaning. The hotel works on a self-registering system using a touch-screen machine which is daunting at first sight, but if you are computer literate you will manage! There is no visible staff but you can get help using the room phone. The bed was comfortable and there was everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The WiFi worked well throughout the building.
The building is an old house, and therefore there is no lift. It is located in the old, interesting part of town, just a few minutes' walk from the cathedral, shops and restaurants.
Car parking is nearby (two to three minutes' walk) at St Clemente, and if you get your parking ticket stamped by the hotel on departure there is a 30 percent reduction. The one staff member that we met (cleaner I think, there in mornings) was very friendly and helpful.
When visiting Santiago I recommend the old city as it is more interesting, and closer to what you will want to see. The surroundings are typical Spanish desecration, high rise apartment blocks that resemble large prisons! - and probably are!

Dear Willy,
Thank you very much for your kind comments. All you said in your comments is correct. We won't descript it better.
In fact the receptionist is from April to November from 9 am to 4 pm. Besides her is a housekeeping person is every day between 10 am and 2 pm. The machine allows you to check in at the hotel 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and every need is covered with the staff Virxe da Cerca, which is located just 5 minutes walk.
We are glad that you enjoyed your stay in Santiago. Hopefully you will soon return.

We arrived in Santiago on Sunday just after midday and, after queuing for two hours in pouring rain to get our pilgrims certificates of completion, we were relived to finally take our rucksacks and shoes off! We didn't have high expectations, we just wanted to stop and relax. We didn't have to walk much further! Hotel is situated just off the square where Cathedral stands, you can see it from the window! After checking in- automatic service by the front door, we got our keys and climbed few starts to our room. It was a lovely room with periodical features, warm and very comfortable they only thing we didn't have was a bath.. Yes it sounds not a big deal but after walking Camino our feet cried for one! Also, again it may not be important for everybody but we really wanted to get our clothes washed to feel like humans again, unfortunately that wasn't an option. Receptionist disappeared in afternoon and we were left to ourselves....

Dear Iwonab,
Thank you very much for your kind comments. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay in Santiago.
Close to the door of the hotel, there is a luggage service, which also helps with the laundry service.

I selected this hotel from many others and I am a regular in Santiago de Compostela, having passed by this place on recent trips. How the hotel management can possibly think they can run a hotel without staff on site is beyond belief. We were forced to check in by a machine at the entrance and expected to pay in full before even entering the building. We were allocated room 32, full of character and quiet, as requested at the back of the hotel. The ceiling was covered in damp and the room was cold and damp with water marks on the wall. The heating was restricted and it took about 4 hours to heat up to a comfortable level let alone be a welcoming atmosphere. We arrived early and checked in early but this is was not communicated to the staff in advance. Later. water started to leak onto the bed so when I contacted reception by telephone I was told I had to exit the building and follow instructions on the same machine in order to change rooms. This turned into a major problem and a lovely, helpful man called Luis came to help and eventually sorted out the keys to the new room 23. This room was of a much better standard and no dampness or water leaks. The room was very comfortable and characterful. Next issue, wifi, none on arrival and after two visits by two different people the wifi worked for a day and then was intermittent for the rest of our stay. This was a major issue as my partner was working and we needed to make travel and meeting arrangements. It is not acceptable to state there is wifi available throughout the hotel when there is not. Then the keys failed to work and we were issued with others which also failed to work. We received kind and helpful service from the staff through the intercom and telephone but if we had known there was no staff on site at this hotel we would never have stayed here. The place was like a morgue, no atmosphere whatsoever and all but empty apart from one other guest. It is beyond me how anyone could think it's possible to run a hotel without staff on site in this manner. Such a shame because this is a beautiful little hotel in an excellent location. We are now following up with a complaint to the hotel through Booking.com as we were not aware there was no staff at this hotel, only that they operated a self service check in procedure. AVOID! Better still, tell them to staff this hotel, there's plenty of unemployed wonderful people in Santiago!

Room Tip: room 23, quiet at the back of the hotel and spacious without a nice view

Estimada Carlitas,

Nicely modernized interior of the historic building in the old city center. However, few details do not allow to give the higher rank - that is:
- rain water leaks inside
- both our phones was unable to logg into WiFi

I have visited Santiago twice during July and the Hotel has never disappointed me. It is very close to the Cathedral, almost next door and from there everything is a few meters away. Service is really good, clean. In my next visit I will definitely consider to stay again here.

Room Tip: Book in advance, a few months if possible

We stayed at this hotel for two days after finishing the Camino. It was perfect - clean, well maintained, beautifully decorated. It was very relaxing after our long walk. The price was very reasonable too.

The hotel is perfectly located near the cathedral and next to the pilgrim help center that provided laundry service. The Rua do Villar is a great street with plenty of cafes, and is smack in the middle of the historical district.

The staff at the hotel were very helpful, spoke great english, and helped us arrange a taxi to the airport. Overall a wonderful stay.
