Bustling place just around the corner from a few hotels, including the Altair. Always seems to be busy with both pilgrims/tourists and locals. We had two great glasses of wine here, which came with some lovely fresh cheese, ham and olives. If you want to soak up the vibe in Santiago de Compostela this is definitely a good place to start.

We stayed at the Hotel Altair down the block from this restaurant. We tried the lunch menu one day and the dinner menu another day. Both were excellent. The waiters were friendly, helpful (we do not speak Gallego) and the menus offered variety. The portions were huge, so you can share entrees. The prices were fair and the wine very good.

Really fresh local specialties and unpretencious service. Make sure that you eat like a local and arrive after 8:30pm to make sure that you're not on your own. Locals and visitors get a great selection of food at a good price.

Right around the corner from the Costa Vella hotel, we were recommended La Bodeguilla to recover from a long day of sightseeing in Santiago. In a warm and cozy atmosphere upstairs we found an extensive menu covering pretty much all Galician sea and meat delicacies, very fresh salads and many local albariño wines. The fried eggs with chorizo and potatoes were fit to feed an emperor or two, and the coffee flan was homemade.
We found the prices to be very reasonable and the service efficient. The place is popular with the locals and is usually full.

Everything I tried was very good, including the "tapitas" which go with the wine. Also Galician wine is worth a try.
