The hotel is very centrally located, only a single street from the main Gibraltar Centre and within a short walk to all the tourist spots: Casemates Sq, Ocean Village, Marina Bay, Cable Car to the Rock etc.
The rooms were very spacious and quite modern, the bed was lovely and comfy and the bathroom was clean, stylish and spacious. We had an east facing balcony that was absolutely tiny - You couldn’t even fit a single chair on it so it became little more that a drying area.
Unfortunately the room which really was great also had an air con unit which sounded like a diesel engine and with the weather it was needed all night meaning little or no comfortable sleep for the week. It really was that loud. Such a shame as the room was excellent apart from this.
The pool area and solarium was lovely also, again it was clean and tidy, the pool wasn’t heated but the sun made it very nice to swim in and the roof top setting offered amazing views of the whole of Gibraltar including the Rock, the city, the bay etc… It really was amazing. But then there were never enough sun bed’s with only 2 sun umbrellas for the whole hotel and if you didn’t get up early enough to claim your beds you would be forced to sit on chairs etc.
The food was excellent with breakfast offering a lovely selection of both full English and continental breakfast. The restaurant team were very friendly and extremely helpful at all times. A really good effort and nothing possible to complain about leaving me with a great impression.
The lunch was also very well priced and nicely prepared but if you wanted it anywhere but the restaurant you had to collect it meaning a journey from the 8th floor solarium to the ground floor restaurant and back. We asked but the staff would not bring it to you as they stated they were ‘understaffed’.
The hotel reception team were always very polite but every time we enquired about anything we got totally mixed messages… One example was that we asked for a late checkout and was told that we could book it immediately but it was best to wait for a few days, we asked to book it however and then were told we couldn’t!! We went back the next day to book it and was told that it would be £30 and we could have the room until 15.00h but we couldn’t book it until the day of departure!! Finally on the day of departure we asked to book and was then told that it was £50 to extend the room!! It was so frustrating and really put a downer on the last day as £50 is the most I have ever paid for a room extension in my life and is far too expensive in my opinion.
All in all the hotel was a mix. The hotel itself was very good: clean, modern, pleasant and nice to stay – thumbs up there… The staff were, whilst polite and helpful, not knowledgeable of hotel policy and inconsistent, procedures changed by the hour and policy just wasn’t clear which is very confusing and extremely frustrating leaving me with mixed feelings about the experience which is such a shame as it could be a great hotel with better organization and a little more effort.
Such a shame that so many little things dampened what was otherwise a great hotel, hence my title of ‘Lovely but frustrating’.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the west side for the better views and the sun in the afternoon.

We had no complaints about this hotel which we stayed in for one night en route back to UK. We declined the £14 pp breakfast (!) and had ours at a 'pub' in the main street. We didn't use any facilities so can't comment on the pool etc. My biggest gripe would be that they charge a stupid amount to use their WIFI, something you get free use of in so many places - I found that astonishing.

Room Tip: We had a room overlooing the front of the hotel and therefore the Rock, which was nice.

We stayed in June for 4 nights, having a room by the lift on the 6th floor. The room was well-appointed and clean. Towels etc changed daily.
The breakfast choice was good, but the room is small, so it was very busy on Saturday and Sunday mornings. We didn't have to queue, but others certainly had to wait some time for a table.
The pool is small and felt chilly. Sun loungers were available on an upper deck above the pool/dining room area. Other communal areas were clean and comfortable.
The hotel, which was the Holiday Inn when I lived in Gibraltar over 30 years ago, is very well-placed, being a short walk from Main Street, Irish Town and Casemates.
Use the local buses to get out to Catalan Bay for calamari at the Village Inn, or to Europa Point for the lighthouse area. At 80p per day ticket (OAP) this is a cheap and convenient way of getting around the Rock.

We visited the hotel in mid July. It's a great hotel with real luxury. The rooms are clean and very spacious. Fantastic breakfast and the hotel presents a family but also business atmosphere.

Few downsides
- hotel pool is very small, no sun loungers by the pool, also no food and drink available to buy poolside.
-no baths in the room just showers (this presents a problem when travelling with small children)
-completely over priced wifi!!!

Staff were very helpful. Gibraltar is great for a short break, in my opinion the caletta hotel would be better if travelling with children as good pool and close to the beach.

If you do visit do the rock tour, this is good value money!

Dear ClairTimms,

Thank you for taking the time to write your review.
We have sun beds on the solarium for sun bathing as we set up tables and chairs by the pool side for breakfast lunch and dinner. We do have rooms with baths also, sorry you did not know this as we would have changed you to a room with a bath.

We look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

With kind regards.

We chose this hotel due to lots of reports on tripadvisor and other sites about bed bugs in the other Gibraltar hotels, and we were glad to see that there was none of them at the Eliott.

First of all, this hotel has an excellent location a few meters from Main Street. It is however a ten minute walk to the cable car.

This hotel has a very large and nice lobby and reception. There is even a bar here with a very large patio. We received excellent service from the woman in the reception when we checked in, only thing to complain about was that we only got one key.

The room was large and spacious with a small balcony with an excellent view. However there were no minibar, an expensive wifi and a very noisy aircondition.
The room also seemed very outdated. There was also no breakfast included.

We did try the rooftop bistro one day and got excellent food and service.
