Not a bad hotel overall, staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are not luxurious but clean with everything you need. The hotel has a nice salt pool area with shade and the use of free towels. The hotel lacks evening entertainment, it's in a quiet bay and if you want to find something to do in the evening you will have to make a bus journey in to town. Just another helpful tip, there are no sun lounges or brollies on the island available for rent at the beach. Breath taking view from sea facing balcony - fantastic!

From reading the other reviews, it almost seemed as if we stayed in a different hotel from everyone else apart from one person. It might have something to do with it, however, that fact that we arrived on a motorbike! We booked earlier in the week for a Sunday night and was told that we had to pay upfront and could not hold the room on a credit card> What is the difference? If they have your card number and you don't show, they can still take the money from your card! The price for the room was £110 without breakfast. We were travelling through Europe for three weeks and was visiting a friend who lives in Gibralter. On arrival the whole hotel was covered in seagull dropping and the cars all around were also covered. This was offputting! There were notices to say that motorcycles were not allowed to park in the car park and we thought that as we were staying at the hotel we would be okay to park. Wrong! On arriving in reception, it was made very clear from the looks of the east european receptionist that we did not fit the bill. We were told to park the bike 100 yards down the road and that our room was not ready for us. It was hot and it was all I could do to stop my husband from firing back at this rude lady. Eventually I approached a male receptionist who was much more helpful and said that we could go to our room. On arrivial we found the carpet stained, cigarette burns on the furniture, the balcony could only sit one chair and person and the room dated and in need of an upgrade. We did not spend much time in the hotel, only a nightcap when we had left our friend. To add injury to insult my husbands bed collapsed during the night at the headboard end. I thought that there was someone in the room it made such a noise. When we reported it the next morning, there was no apology and no offer of a refund. This was our first and last visit to Gibralter and would defineately not recommend this hotel to any of our friends. We are educated, middle-class, decent people and could probably buy this hotel if we so wished!!!! Never judge a book by it's cover. To sum up Gibralter:- Seagull [--] Dog[--] Ape[--]and Bull[--] Would never go back.

Lovely stay here at this hotel. Lovely room. During our stay we had complimentary robes and slippers. The room was cleaned daily. good facilities including aircon, tv, minibar. Plenty of space too. Hotel was clean and staff very attentive. Pool a little small but beach is close enough. Lots of steps not particularly good for people with walking difficulties though the hotel has a lift there are still a number of steps that are unavoidable.

We have just returned from the Caleta, having stayed there the same time last year, and again have had a fantastic time. We were 3 hours early for check in and the reception staff could not have been more helpful. The lady directed us to the outdoor bar and invited us to have a coffee or drink while she checked if our room was ready. Within 10 minutes reception came out with our keys and directed us to our room.

Our room was on floor one - incredibly clean, very nice goodies in the bathroom and a fantastic view of the sea. The pool area was very relaxing and just down a short flight of stairs to the sand and sea.

The food and service in all areas of the Caleta could not be faulted. The hotel is on the sleepier side of the rock but the local bus service is excellent at around every 15 minutes, stops outside reception and costs £1.50 for an all day anywhere ticket. It is only a very short ride in to the main town.

Our check out was equally as smooth with the staff very keen to ensure that they had lived up to expectations.

All in all - Ten out of ten. We loved it.

Room Tip: Please ask for a sea view.

I live in Gibraltar and have eaten and drank at the Caleta Hotel often as majoring of our directors stay there. We had dinner and ordered a taxi then realising we had to cancel it as our friends wanted one more drink. We cancelled the taxi within a minute or two from ordering it. The waitress came back and said there is a £5 fee to cancel the taxi. As we live in Gibraltar we have never heard of this so were both confused but agreed to the £5 and apologised for the cancelation. Few minutes later we went up to reception to order a new taxi and the man behind the reception was horribly rude to us. He refused to order another taxi till we paid the £5 so we asked for a receipt and he refused, he proceeded to swear at us and slam the phone down when pretending to order a new taxi which he had not done. All we wanted was a receipt for the £5 we were going to give him and he was disgracefully rude to us. He called the waitress and she asked if we did not trust that he paid it after he claimed to pay it out of his own pocket. I said that by the way he was acting over a simple receipt and how rude he was no i don't trust him. I have never experienced something like this before or been sworn at by staff. He was an older asian man and a great discredit to Caleta. We eventually got our taxi and asked the taxi driver how much it cost to cancel a taxi as I say I have never heard of this from our 4 years of living in Gib. She said if you phone before it reaches its destination its free but if it arrives and you cancel it its approx £3.00.
