“Wonderful Stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 November 2013

Stayed 4 nights in late November. We were made to feel very welcome and were pleased with the room which, while not on a decor level with swish modern hotels, was pleasant, clean, of a good size with all facilties including tea making and air conditioner, and the biggest bed I have ever seen. The view was just fantastic. It is quite a steep walk up to the hotel from the town but well worth it in our view. It was wonderful to relax with a glass of something on the balcony taking in the views. Should also mention that the reception area is lovely - pleasant décor, very spacious and open with lots of casual seating areas. We stay in loads of hotels and on a comparative basis, for the price, we were very happy with this one and I would recommend it.

Stayed here for 2 nights in mid November. The choice of places to stay in Gib is very limited, but thought this would be OK since it has such a great view. That bit was right; other than that, the hotel is very disappointing. Dated rooms, dirty corridor carpets, very basic bar food and breakfast. Even though it was cool out, there were no blankets provided - but one was delivered quite promptly on request. Brochure say 'most rooms' have internet - I was on the 3rd floor, unable to connect and was told it's only rooms on the 1st floor.

What could and should be a great hotel is far from it. Maybe a full refurbishment would make the hotel what it really ought to be - and would then be worth the price they charge.

Room Tip: 1st floor rooms are supposed to have internet access

Great view- fine for a few days in Gib. Rooms are old style, quite clean and nice view.
The bar is very nice and breakfast is fine, but if you compare it with prices is not a good deal at all. Once they'll decide to completely refurbish it, would be interesting to re evaluate.

Mum is Gibraltarian so we visited family regualarly and this hotel was the place to stay so when we were looking for this trip I just couldn't resist booking. Though overall Hotel is 'tired' and in need for a full refurbishment.
All the Staff we interacted with were friendly and very helpful.
Our room had a great view over the docks (where my grandfather worked) and beyond.
Breakfast is standard buffet with full range from fruit, cereal, continental & hot, so more than adequate.
Not a great location if you want to be central to the town, though for those of us who like to walk it's not far - nothing is far in Gibraltar.
Hotel is positioned just above the Gardens and the cable car, which are both worth visiting, the trip to the top is worth it for the views alone.

Room Tip: Sea View rooms on upper floors give the best views over the Docks and beyond

Very disappointed with hotel it's no way near a 4 star hotel more like a 2 star.

Breakfast is very sub standard stale bread, processed sausages and restaurant walls has paint peeling off walls

Bed rooms are a throw back from the 70s with desperate need of refurbishment

On a good note hotel staff are very good and the views are great from the rooms

It could be the best hotel in Gibraltar if they spent a bit of money on the place

Where do I start. I read the previous reviews but found the manager's comments promising. I was sorely disappointed. The hotel is in dire need of a facelift in all aspects ... the front, the inside, the rooms, the bathrooms etc etc.

I was there for two nights on business. I already knew that there was no gym and that the swimming pool was outdoors so I cannot complain about that as it was information that I already had.

The taxi took me up to the hotel which is a little way away from the centre and the office. The hotel looked like something I saw in one of the Greek islands years ago. Looked like paint peeling all over. The views from the hotel were great. Fantastic day for the visit as it was sunny and clear and you could see across to Spain.

Check in was smooth and helpful. I was even offered a glass of sherry during check in which was nice. I was handed a traditional key with a small tag showing the room number.

So I go up to the room and am greeted with a very dated room with two single beds pushed together. The bathroom has cracked tiles on the floor and the bath tub itself is visibly worn with patches which have been repaired.

I went out for the day and then came back to do some work. So I look for the Wi-Fi signal. I opened up my MacBook Air, iPad and iPhone. Only my laptop could see a very weak signal and could not connect however much I tried. I was not even the room the furthest away from the core of the building.

The mattresses and covers seemed thin and worn.

This hotel is one that my company has a preferential deal with but for business purposes it does not deliver on anything other than price and service. Unfortunately, on the next occasion, I will be staying somewhere else.

Room Tip: First floor rooms have large balconies and the second floor have a smaller balcony. Any rooms highe...

We booked a short 4 day break and arrived on 05.11.13.Our room number was 218 on the 2nd floor. The room was very clean as was the bathroom and the balcony provided a wonderful view over the Med straights and also Morroco and its mountains could also be clearly seen to the left.
Some critics say that the hotel is old fashioned and tired but take no notice. We found that its location, furniture, atmosphere and state of decoration was fine and would thoroughly recommend it to anybody. The staff were very polite and most helpful when required. WARNING - The apes can reach this room. I did not close the balcony doors properly and the little monkeys helped them selves to the tea and coffee condiments but no harm was done and it was our own fault and they add character to the resort.

Room Tip: The 2nd floor is fine but make sure you order one with a balcony to appreciate the view
