Went to Gibraltar for the day and walked up 300 or more steps up to the nature reserve to see the apes we managed to see two who was walking on the road side.all the others were somewhere in the town. The walk is ok if you are fairly fit because walking up can be tiring.it was ok when we walked because it was fairly cool. we looked around the shops which is vat free but can be very expensive .We planned to go on the cable cars but they were cancelled because of the wind.

Our advice is take the cable car to the top, to see the majority of the apes head south towards St Michaels Caves (You can get some Sustenance there too!).

The best time to go is take the very 1st Cable Car up (9:30) get there before the crowds - you will see more and the apes will be more interested. However take a map with you because there are very few sign posts especially for walkers. Everything seems to be geared up for the Tour Mini Buses & Tour Taxis. You will see a lot more on foot!

If you choose to head North (Towards the airport) to go to the WW2 or Great Siege Caves or the Moorish Castle - take a drink with you there is nothing on route or at these attractions, but again take a reasonable map the free ones don't tend to show you all the roads or paths & it can get a little confusing if you haven't been on the route before. (Not many apes heading this way)

Either direction you choose if not both you are assured of great views.

After getting the cable car up we walked around. If you dont like walking don't go up without the taxi. Was a lovely walk around, seeing the monkey, seeing the amazing views and exploring.

We ascended the Rock via the Mediterranean Steps, which are quite manageable for anyone who is able to cope with the office stairs. The views of the aqua sea below and the flowers, foliage and bird life make the effort very worthwhile. There are several caves along the way and plenty of ape families wondering about at the top. You can choose to descend the way you came or down the road on the other side.

Not cheap but worth it if you want some fantastic views and getting close to the cheeky monkeys - just be careful and watch your belongings! lol!
