I stayed here for two nights at the beginning of October as my father was getting married in Gibraltar. Having read the previous reviews, I was apprehensive to say the least but all other hotels were fully booked. The Bristol was able to accommodate our wedding party of nine and although the hotel is in dire need of refurbishment, the rooms were comfortable and the staff friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel is ideal for the main shopping street and is within walking distance of the registry office and the lovely marina. Overall not too bad an experience.

the bristol hotel is stuck in a time warp. when you enter you feel like you are back in the 40's, all the facilities are really basic and rooms are quite dark.saying that the breakfast is plenty and a good variety on offer.

but the best thing about bristol hotel is the staff. they are all so wonderful and helpful. i had most contact with toni and janet and they went out of their way to help us out. they were, polite , friendly and just wonderful. if you want a nice hotel but unfriendly staff then book somewhere else otherwise stay here. it is also right next to the town centre and the no.2 bus which goes all the way to europa point, and stops in front of the cable car stop is opposite the hotel. and the best thing? the bus is free.

I would not discourage people from staying here but do offer this critical review.
The Hotel barely deserves its three star rating due to being somewhat tired and old fashioned.
Nevertheless the staff are friendly and helpful.
The rooms are somewhat jaded and need a facelift though they are clean and the plumbing works.
The creature comforts expected in a modern hotel, e.g. tea making facilities are not there and my room did smell of smoke. The refrigerator needed to be replaced.
I asked if the hotel had non smoking rooms and was told no. This concept appears foreign to the management, but is also foreign to Gibraltar where smoking in bars and public places is common.
The best feature of the hotel is its central location, right in the middle of town.
The hotel has been owned by the same family for many many years and there is perhaps a reluctance to change from traditional ways.
It has the potential to be a colonial gem but does need money spent on it and some new ideas introduced.

Room Tip: Ask for an outside facing room if one is available.

Don't be fooled by the pictures, 17 to 19 October 2011, we walked out after one night in a smelly, musty room on 3rd floor. There was an ants nest in the corner of the room, floor evidently had not been vacuumed for some time. There were,no blinds in toilet and we all know how see-through frosted glass is with a light behind it. Having said that, all windows in the room were louvred frosted glass and when opened, there was no view anyway. Don't go if you have a mobility issue, there are steep stairs up and over a road and down the other side to the breakfast/dining area. From the 'hotel side' of this bridge, you need to be able to move quickly and see in the dark, as the 'timed' light didn't work. Tables no good for tall people, can't get legs under. Decour exceedingly dated but this would have been ok if the place was clean. Reception staff pleasant.

Room Tip: Don't choose this hotel!

One night stay at short notice. Last time I stayed here was in 1997. Has improved since then but the room was a little dated but Ok for the single night. Clean enough and free wifi in the lounge, which is a nice room..
I would say for the money it is reasonable value

We stayed 1st October for 5 nights. The first night was awful as the springs in the bed were digging us in the ribs! Asked for another room but the same problem and a smaller room with no air con. We tried to book into another hotel but they were all fully booked. The air con was noisy, useless and the room had a horrible smell. We won't be returning! Jane & Tony
