This wine tour was excellent value for money at 220 Euros for the two of us. Our personal guide Jose Ramon took us to four wineries tasting a good range of high quality wines, as well as a tour of the wine making process at one of them. Nothing was too much trouble for Jose Ramon who gave us an interesting insight into the wines and the region. Well worth it.

We loved our private tour with Jose from Rioja Tasting Travel. After much research of other tour operators who seemed outrageously priced, we found that €110 per person for 5hrs was the best value for money. Jose, who spoke English, took us to 4 wineries in Haro and another not far away, as well as a tour inside one of the wineries. Jose also took us to a beautiful old church overlooking the valley of endless vineyards. It was a very scenic tour and by the end, we'd had more than our fair share of Rioja wine! Our only side comment would be that wine tasting in Spain is completely different to tasting in Australia i.e. In Australia, it's free to taste small samples of a winery's full collection (albeit there's an expectation you'll buy a bottle or case) whereas tasting in Spain you pay by the glass (which is a full glass and the price was covered by Rioja Tasting Travel). Therefore, unless you can handle drinking full glasses of wine at every stop or are happy to waste the €uros (and wine!) per glass, we felt we missed out on tasting what all the wineries had to offer but this seems to be how Spain's wine tourism is set up. There is also an emphasis on booking ahead for tastings which is also different to Australia where cellar doors are always open to tourists to drop in.
