Myself and my partner have just come back from 4 nights in this hostal. I booked it in November 2013 as a Christmas present.

I have to say this is a perfect hostal for back packers or couples who wish to use the hostal as simply a place to leave your bag. The room was extremely clean and was a great size for us. All we used the room for was sleeping showering and about 90 minutes rest between daytime activities before going out again in the eve. The room was perfect for this.

The hostal has free and rather speedy wifi too for those that need to keep in touch with home.

The closest metro station is so close you could hit it with a tennis ball and it has 3 lines that run through it. Most of the main attractions can be accessed via the 3 lines at this metro station and if they can't, one of the 3 lines will connect to the line you need. However I will add, if you are willing to walk, arm yourself with a map and you'll find some of the attractions are in walking distance.

Alonso Martinez is the metro station for those that wish to have a look at a map&tube map to see what I mean

The staff are friendly and spoke English and were very willing to allow me to attempt my Spanish :)

So if you want a hostal that is extremely well priced in a great location in a great city that is no thrills but is safe clean and perfect for those on short trips wishing for a base to explore madrid, then you'll do a lot worse than this.

It was one of the best hostals I stayed at. Very nice room, clean and cosy, extremly comfortable bed, great electronic system insread of keys. We've stayed there for 4 nights and got our sheets and towels changed 2 times not like in other hostals.
The stuff is friendly, asian looking guy speaks good English, girl doesn't at all. I personally really liked the breakfast in cafeteria next door, good coffee, fresh orange juice and fresh pastries.
Also very good location, about 10 minutes to the center.
I would stay there in a heartbeat next time.

This hostal is very decent for the price, if you are looking for a good location, easy access to metro, cheap, clean this is the place. Oh and did I mention the small matter that this place has air conditioning - a must if you are travelling in summer. We payed €52 euro for two nights here for two people which was the cheapest place on our 6 week tour. The room is not great to hang around in and the guy at the front desk was unfriendly but we felt safe and the room was good enough to sleep and shower in. Just outside the hostal there is lovely places to have a beer for reaonable prices, a great breakfast place around the corner called plaza 66 and a lovey italian place called da gavinos which are both highly recommended.

Room Tip: We stayed next to the reception... no issues with the room

We spent there two days at the end of our tour through Portugal and Spain. It is centrally located, with basic amenities, but clean and well maintained. I strongly recommend it and I will be back. Thank you!

i stayed at the hostal on the last night b4 my flight, was looking for a cheaper place to stay and was realy pleased to discover this hostal! for 30eu (for a couple) we got a very clean room (and the only double bed we encountered in spain) and even a tiny balcony from where you can see the plaza. its 10 -15 min walking distance north from puerta del sol and all touristic places, 30 min walk from the prado museum. there is also a metro station in the plaza which i used for getting to the airport. when we arrived to the hostal , bottled water and apples were waiting for us in the room which was a nice welcome! very recommended if you travel on a tighter budget.

We stayed 4 nights and thought the Asuncion was very good value. It is in a good location, convenient for the metro and lots of little cafes where we had super cheap breakfasts. The pedestrian area gets noisy late at night with nice outdoor bars, so request a back room if you're a light sleeper. I had no problems booking directly through the hotel website. The staff were not around much, but were easy to contact on the reception phone. They provided extra pillows and a hairdryer very promptly when requested. Our room was immaculate and the beds comfortable. There was complimentary coffee at reception. The TV was useless as only Spanish programmes, but this could be easily sorted out if management made the effort. We would recommend this little hotel.

Room Tip: Back rooms have less street noise at night
