Billed as a hostal, I thought this place could easily call itself hotel. The rooms are a bit small but comfortable. Reception was friendly, checkin/out was easy and they kept our bags stored for almost 12 hours with no problem. Wifi was free and the signal was good. The room was spare, without a clock or much space but there is a TV and a bidet in the bathroom. There is a nice reeption room and computer room available for guests as well.
The room was perfectly clean and though the view was of the back of another building, the location of the place is fabulous. It's right off Gran Via, Calle Mayor is nearby and we easily walked to the Prado, Plaza de Espana and Atocha. There are plenty of little shops, markets and restaurants nearby and open late in typical Spanish style. Several metro stops are close as well, making a few different lines easily accessible.
It was a nice value for our one night stay. I felt the drawback was what seemed to be paper-thin walls. I could hear a lot from nearby rooms, not only hairdryers but conversations, and everything in the hallway. Sure, the neighborhood might seem dicey because of a few ladies of the night plying their wares outside, but I hardly found it threatening or sketchy; this is likely just a good place for them to be in the mix. They didn't bother myself, my man or our male friend at all, they simply minded their own business.
For such a good price, I'd stay again and I'd recommend it to friends.
