We were at the hotel for three nights, and I have to say I still do not understand what he received 4 stars for.
The rooms where unpleasant , the reception staff was rude and impatient (the older men, the younger guys were nicer) and location isn't a hit.
In addition the wifi was not working when we arrived and when we asked when will it be fixed we were shown a printed sign that says it is broken. As we continued to insist that we understood it doesn't work and we want to know when will it work, they showed us the sign again ... Needless to say- for the three days we were there it wasn't fixed.
The room we got had mold on the wall, we photographed it and my husband showed it to the man at the reception, he received the answer "good for you" and "what do you want me to do about it", only after I got cross on the response he sent us a nice lady from the maintenance staff to review it and they transferred us to a more normal room.
the location is reasonable (convenient as is in front of a metro station and דhopping mall) but walking distance of a quarter of an hour or so to the city center and the sites.

Across is the principe pio mall which has the basic shops u possibly want. Less crowded that cortes ingles. Behind is a river where u can take a relaxing walk. Nearby is a convenience store that is opened til 12mn. Don't expect too much on the buffet breakfast.

The hotel is well located, within walking distance of the Gran Via, and just across the street from the Metro Station (Principe Pio) making travel to and from the airport easy. The staff were nice and friendly, the hotel was clean and the bed comfortable... but it was showing its age! I guess the hotel was built in the 1940s or 1950s - but now needs to be brought up to date: pink bathroom fixtures are quite depasse and the TV set in the room looked about 30 years old. The hotel is used by numerous tours and therefore the breakfast room (great abundance of food available in the buffet style meal) was quite crowded in the morning!

I just arrived back a few weeks ago where I stayed at the Florida Norte Hotel in Madrid. I brought it as a mystery hotel on www.expedia.com for 60 dollars per night which was non refundable. The odd thing while I searched all the hotels in this central Madrid area where they tell you the hotel upfront, this hotel was not listed on Expedia's website. The most likely reason is that it falls below the standards of a four star hotel. Old bathrooms, no clock in the room, cheap Ikea type furniture, no iron or ironing board. When the mystery hotel was being promoted by Expedia one is thinking by the description that they are going to be getting a Hilton, Tryp or Marriott and what they are getting is a older but well maintained 4 *lobby with a updated 2* room(Motel 6) and spotlessly clean but old bathroom. In fact, AA Vacations and Priceline just to name a few list it as a 3 * property.

If you search all the four star hotels in this area, then you will see how the rooms are lacking to use a better word as they are poor for a 4 star hotel but very clean.

In addition, the average price for a 4 star hotel in this area was 120.00 USD per night. However this hotel was averaging the same price that I paid 60.00 if I had booked it on the hotels website directly and not taken it as a mystery hotel through Expedia. I was mislead but did not overpay.

So over all would I recommend this hotel? Yes, as a 3 star hotel but not a 4 and if you can get it for under $60 USD per night

Its is more geared for tourists that it is the business traveler.

The Florida Norte needs to lower their star level until they update the rooms and make it more like the Tryp Ambassador. Essentially this is a higher level 3 star or a lower level 3.5 star tops.

Celuisma Florida Norte, directly across the street from the Princpe Pio Metro station, and about a 15 minute uphill walk to the Royal Palace, offers a great location for exploring the center of Madrid. Location is the biggest advantage for choosing this hotel, if choosing one with a budget minded approach. Sure, there are other hotels directly in the center, but most likely not as inexpensive or not as safe as the Florida Norte. The amenities here are basic, but what you would expect for a capital city, large style hotel in the year 2013. Staff were polite, breakfast was ok, but could have had a better selection of fruit like most other Spanish hotels in this same class. Internet exists only in the lobby area and can be slow. I would have no problem choosing this hotel again.

I have comeback to the same hotel after one year and I must say that everything is the same: it is clean, cheap and near the centre and opposite a train station. At night I could sleep very well as the air conditioning functioned perfectly well. It has the same faults as I encountered the last time I stayed in it: the TV is old-fashioned and it only picks up a few channels and sometimes the reception is poor. Sometimes at night you cannot get into the Internet and at breakfast you cannot find soya or skimmed mmilk. Besides, the coffee is not very good. But in general it is worth staying in this hotel. Another thing: If you do not want to pay for the parking, there are plenty of free spaces in the streets surrounding the train station opposite the hotel. Next time I visit Madrid I will stay in the same hotel.
