It is a very funky hotel - when you step in off the street it is clear that the designers have thought carefully about the layout and feel of the hotel. the receptionist was busy so we were led into the reception room - v cool - and offered a welcome drink. so far so good.

The staff took our passports, came back and asked us both who had rang and asked about the upgrade - it was my wife, as it was my 40th birthday weekend and she wanted to do something special (champagne breakfast in bed) and asked about this at the same time (and based on reviews that I have seen on tripadvisor the hotel does upgrade for special occasions).

We booked through Mr & Mrs Smith and I know they mentioned it was my birthday. The way this was handled was embarrassing for both of us. The approach was not thought through - really not a great start to our stay. In the end we did upgrade and were told we were going to be charged for it, which is fine, but where's the consistency of policy? There was clearly the availability....

That aside (and it wasn't great) the staff were generally really good. we both thought the man who took our bags was aloof and he didn't seem to speak english, which seemed odd for a 5 star hotel, but they were great in helping with hotel bookings and tickets for the Madrid game.

The room was great. really spacious and tastefully designed. The mini bar was extortionate, even for a 5 star, and the toilet really poorly designed.

I had stayed in Villa Magna the week before on business and this hotel is not as good. but then it is two thirds of the price.

The hotel is ideal for a stay in central Madrid, with excellent service and very helpful staff,we had a double room which was small but ideal for our 1 night stay, the en suite bathroom was excellent with everything one could want ....the hotel is close to the best shopping areas, museums are only a short walk or taxi ride away , with some good restaurants and Tapas nearby.

The hotel is very luxurious, well kept, and outsatnding location. The service staff is very particular and greets you every time you go downstairs to see how they can help you. It is a pretty exclusive hotel. We enjoyed relaxing in the lovely courtyard garden after a long day walking around the neighborhood.Best room service quality food ever. Will be back!

Room Tip: Deluxe room with garden views: large and quiet rooms.

I stayed at the Hotel Unico for one night before flying home from Spain via MAD. The reception was exceptional, we were provided with a restaurant recommendation and reservation, as well as a car service was arranged for our trip to the airport the following morning. The room amenities were comfortable and we found the location to be quiet for a good night's sleep.

We celebrated our 10th anniversary in Madrid last January.
As this was a city break, accommodation was of importance and we were willing to pay a little extra so, we finally booked The Unico.
What a wonderful choice me made!

Hotel Unico is well located in Salamanca in a quiet street. It is conveniently close to Retiro Park, many high fashion stores, excellent diverse restaurants and many sites of interest in Madrid. La Latina and other central 'barrios' of interest are only a short metro ride away.

Upon check-in we were upgraded from a deluxe room to a garden deluxe in favor of our celebration. A very nice gesture of the hotel.
Our room was spacious and well appointed. It's urban chic that boasts understated luxury.

Gym at the Unico is little on the insufficient side, but in a city where gyms aren't really abundant - a hotel that has a gym is quite nice.

We were very happy with the Unico's breakfast buffet that concentrated on high quality, well picked items rather than the regular quantity based "feast for the eyes" you get at the international hotels.

And yet, the best thing that can be said on the Unico is their outstanding service.
Lobby, bell people, reception, house keeping are all genuinely interested in proving an extraordinary experience. And they do.
A special thank you to Grace and Gorka that provided us with excellent dining recommendations and catered to all our requests to our utmost satisfaction.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Unico. The neighborhood is wonderful - staying in the Salamanca neighborhood, you feel more like a resident of Madrid and less like a tourist. The room was lovely and extremely clean. There is ample storage and we had a large bathroom and two windows in our Unico King Garden. The room was a bit small - but we did not mind at all. When we returned in the afternoon, we relaxed in one of the two lounge areas for guests on the main floor. There are wonderful art books to page through, comfortable seating and late afternoon snacks to enjoy. The staff was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Breakfast was outstanding. We can't wait to return! The Hotel Unico is the perfect boutique hotel in Madrid.
