“Perfect Spot in the middle of it all”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 April 2014

I had done some research on places to stay and i have to admit I am a fan of the Radisson Blu brand and it has never let me down. Here in Madrid I was attending a conference in the north part of the City and the hotels in area were not really great and the opportunity to just walk out your door and experience the culture and history of Madrid was not available there. It is definitely here at the Radisson Blu Prado.

Let's start with the little cafe's and open tapas areas just outside the main door. The hotel also maintains a central location there and when the weather is nice, everyone is out there. The great thing about sitting in the hotel section is you can charge to your hotel bill. But there is a lot of competition and I really like La Plateria for more traditional Tapas, great wine and beer plus some quirky characters as servers. It was hard to get up and leave.

Access to other activities was also very convenient. We set out to see a Real Madrid Champions league football match and the bus on rue Prado was very convenient. A word of wisdom here: The bus in Madrid on a football night can be somewhat like a can of sardines, so be prepared for that. The Prado Museum is right across the street and some of the best restaurants and tapas places are east. There are even some very good night life clubs and bars, all within stumbling distance.

English was spoken by all the staff and they were very helpful, day and night. Mercedes, one of the bar and restaurant servers, always had a smile for us and she was very helpful with ensuring we were never lacking for wine and tapas. Rooms were very clean and the hotel is relatively new. Rooms were somewhat smaller but in fairness, that is the standard here.

We had a car the entire stay and there are only two parking spots available at the hotel and the cost is 50 EUR per day. I would suggest taxi, metro, train or bus, as they are all well below that cost, even from the airport. Car rental in spain is also expensive, lot's of insurance as car crime is rampant here. Lesson learned.

The small nice pool was under renovation and the gym area is small. If this is a major part of your lifestyle, you may want to consider somewhere else.

Overall, I really loved this area of town and felt very fortunate to have made the choice I did to stay at the Radisson Blu Prado. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Street level noise can be lower on the the upper levels but the elevators are slow. There is no diff...

Great location in central Madrid close to the central train station. Welcoming staff, excellent breakfast. Typical Radisson Blu, you have expectations for a comfortable and efficient stay and they deliver.

Perfect location, outstanding breakfast, and cool rooms. So near museums, great tapas, etc. Also got great restaurant recommendations from staff. Our family of five rented two adjoining rooms--one was a suite--and we have tons of room.

The location is very good; lots of good bars and restaurants around the hotel (but don't go to the restaurant right across the street toward the Prado--bad restaurant catering only to tourists). Rooms are small, but bathrooms are larger than average. Good shower, although it can get cold since there is only a glass panel and no closeable door. The heater works too well. Since we had to sleep with the window open to stay cool, we heard loud partying and/or trash trucks most every night. Good mattress though. Desk and closet are very small. OK for one person, but gets very crowded with two.

The hotel has a very nice breakfast buffet. Good selection of coffees and teas.

The lobby is not very welcoming. There is virtually no sitting area, and the lobby bar can accommodate no more than 5 or 6 people at a time. Although the front desk staff was pretty good, there was never a bartender in the bar during the 6 nights we were there. I found it odd that I had to go to the front desk to ask someone to get me a drink, at which point I had to wait for someone to arrive--usually is was someone from the restaurant that seemed not to want to be bothered tending bar. I understand why they don't have a full-time bartender, but they need to figure out a better system.

Overall a good experience, but don't expect much more than a small (but clean) room and a good breakfast at this hotel.

Room Tip: Get one of the rooms with a small balcony if you can.

This is not what you'd normally expect from a Raddisson Blu hotel as far as size is considered.
It's a smaller hotel but well equipped (even has a small swimming pool). Parking is limited, it's on a one way street. Of you come by taxi, tell the driver to drop you off at the Paseo del Prado and you'l have a 20 m walk to the hotel, otherwise it will go around and charge you another 10-15 EUR.
No problem with check in or check oout.
Rooms are small but comfortable with a new-age design. Nice.

Dear Szabi_Viola,

Thank you for your feedback and for taking the time to write about your experience.
As a small boutique hotel located in an historic building in the city center, design and layout is mostly determined by the possibilities given in such a destination and mirrors in the perception of the room size and its utilization. The balconies are typically for the building of the late XIX century. The 2009 fully renovated building has been designed by a renowned Spanish designer and has received a lot of accolades
We are delighted to read that you enjoyed staying with us and we are of course looking forward to welcoming you in the very near future.

Supremely clean. Solid breakfast buffet. Friendly staff. Perfect location if you want to be close to Museo del Prado, Atocha and premier shopping. The bathroom had an awkward configuration with not enough space to put toiletries. There were no towel racks close enough to shower. Regardless, the staff was very helpful and the attention to neatness was very apparent.

Stayed here using Radisson (Club Carlson) points with a friend for 4 nights. Overall, it was a good stay. Normally I have always stayed at the Intercontinental Madrid, but this was too good a value to pass up and try, and based on my superb experience at the Radisson Blu Dublin, I wanted to test it out.

The hotel is in an old building and is very small. We had a business room, which I think is largely the same size as a normal room, included breakfast, and according to the TV screen, pay per view movies. Check in was easy and the staff were all friendly and helpful. The room was very small (about 200 sq ft I think), but functional. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was a good size. We had a view of the courtyard/plaza where you enter the hotel. The nearest metro stop is about a 5-10 minute walk up a little hill (Anton Martin I believe it is).

Breakfast was a simple affair, with a relatively small buffet that did not seem to change in the 4 days. Overall though, it was good. The food was tasty and there were some very nice options, like several quality breads and some tomato puree to make your own pan con tomate, along with various cold cuts and oils. Also there were several standard fruits, breads and pastries. One day they made my friend a tortilla as well at no charge. The selection was not incredible, but it is a solid amount of good tasting stuff, and certainly enough to get you going on your day each day.

As stated, the hotel is nearby to the Prado and other such sites, and about a 20-30 minute walk to Sol and the Plaza Mayor should you just want to walk (as we did numerous times). Overall, a nice hotel. Not a 5 star luxury hotel like the IC, but honestly, a very good option in its price range and if you are looking for affordable 4 star property, this is a great choice.
