I had done some research on places to stay and i have to admit I am a fan of the Radisson Blu brand and it has never let me down. Here in Madrid I was attending a conference in the north part of the City and the hotels in area were not really great and the opportunity to just walk out your door and experience the culture and history of Madrid was not available there. It is definitely here at the Radisson Blu Prado.
Let's start with the little cafe's and open tapas areas just outside the main door. The hotel also maintains a central location there and when the weather is nice, everyone is out there. The great thing about sitting in the hotel section is you can charge to your hotel bill. But there is a lot of competition and I really like La Plateria for more traditional Tapas, great wine and beer plus some quirky characters as servers. It was hard to get up and leave.
Access to other activities was also very convenient. We set out to see a Real Madrid Champions league football match and the bus on rue Prado was very convenient. A word of wisdom here: The bus in Madrid on a football night can be somewhat like a can of sardines, so be prepared for that. The Prado Museum is right across the street and some of the best restaurants and tapas places are east. There are even some very good night life clubs and bars, all within stumbling distance.
English was spoken by all the staff and they were very helpful, day and night. Mercedes, one of the bar and restaurant servers, always had a smile for us and she was very helpful with ensuring we were never lacking for wine and tapas. Rooms were very clean and the hotel is relatively new. Rooms were somewhat smaller but in fairness, that is the standard here.
We had a car the entire stay and there are only two parking spots available at the hotel and the cost is 50 EUR per day. I would suggest taxi, metro, train or bus, as they are all well below that cost, even from the airport. Car rental in spain is also expensive, lot's of insurance as car crime is rampant here. Lesson learned.
The small nice pool was under renovation and the gym area is small. If this is a major part of your lifestyle, you may want to consider somewhere else.
Overall, I really loved this area of town and felt very fortunate to have made the choice I did to stay at the Radisson Blu Prado. I would definitely stay here again.
