Hostal La Casa de La Plaza

The location is excellent, it can't be more central.
The hostel is clean and furnishing is rather new, yet cleanliness could be better.
The hostel is divided into two apartments. Our apartment consisted of ~7 rooms and 3 shared bathrooms.
Given the location, the price is very fair.

This accommodation is pertty basic but really clean, beds were solid and I had a great sleep :-0. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful - although they didn't all speak English they couldn't have been nicer or more friendly. The location of the hostel is exceptional - it's really central - at most it's a 3 minute walk to Puerto del sol. A stone's throw to theMercado san miguel, surrounded by really lovely eateries and a supermarket with everything you could need next door. This all for a budget price! I can't wait to go back :-)

Great for solo travellers. I had a cheap single room for 1 night with shared bathroom (20 euros). Its 1 euro for towel hire. There were 2 nice bathrooms with showers right by my room-never a queue. Room was absolutely fine with plug socket by bed to charge phone on bedside table. Room even had tv though didn't try. It was noisy with people coming in & out throughout night in corridor but no street noise, slept pretty well. Location couldn't be better as people have said. Not well signed outside so hard to spot but literally opposite San Miguel Market, which is a food lovers paradise. Definitely recommend both hostal & market!

This is more like a low-budget hotel than a hostel! The rooms are clean and spacious and the beds are very comfy - they also a TV and a balcony. Our floor had three toilets and three showers which were cleaned every day with high power showers. I never had to wait to use the bathroom. The staff were friendly, although some of them spoke little English. We still manage to communicate with them though. Fantastic location, very close to Puerta del Sol looks over the Mercado de San Miguel. However, if you are a light sleeper there is a little noise from the Market if your room faces the front. You could easily ask for a room at the other side of the hostel though. I would definitely recommend this hostel as for only 15 euros a night it was an amazing place to stay.

Room Tip: Light sleepers - get a room at the back, away from the market Good view - get a room over the marke...

I was expecting a tiny, unimpressive low cost place to stay for few days, but I actually find out a clean, large double room with balcony, tv (even though we never switched on) and very comfortable beds! There were 4 bathrooms with shower in ur floor and we never had to wait to go there. Not very noisy for being just in front of the san miguel market and the staff we met was helpful in providing us an hair dryer following our request. Towels are provided for 1 € each, but nightly rates are very cheap (less than 20 euros per person!).
Location is the best we could find, next to plaza mayor and few minutes walking from puerta de Sol, Latina, Real Palacio and to the main city attraction. If you don't mind having shared bathroom, it's perfect.

I booked this on Booking.com and the site made it sound as though it was a B&B - La Casa de La Plaza has remedied this now by adding Hostel in front. However, in my opinion this is an excellent place to stay. The rooms are simple but clean and if you are lucky you have a room with a balcony overlooking the oldest market in Madrid. The market is terrific as you can buy beautiful fresh fruit and snacks to take with you for the day. There is also a supermarket next door where you can pick up water and other basics cheaply. You are also very close to Placa Major and Palau Real and numerous other sites as well as in walking/ metro distance of others, amazing!

None of the rooms have their own bathroom but this wasn't a problem as each floor has three to choose from.

I found it quiet at night though clearly being in the centre of Madrid there is always going to be some city noise. I didn't have any noise issues from any of the other guests or problems during my stay.

The staff working on the reception were really helpful, one of them did not speak English as fluently but then my Spanish is not as good as it should be either so we both managed to work it out! The lady who runs the place speaks English though and was able to help with any issues. They were very keen to help and make my stay as pleasant as possible and they definitely succeeded.

I think that this would be a great place for people traveling on their own and couples of any ages. It's really super and I will certainly be coming again!

Location is probably THE BEST one could find in Madrid for such an affordable price. Walking distance from everywhere: tourist attractions, nightlife, metro, supermarket... Makes visiting the city a lot easier. 24-hour service provided by very nice staff and wi-fi access makes it even better.
Check-in is at noon but if the room is ready, you can have an early check-in, free of further charge, like us. Gladly surprised that there where three bathrooms in a single aisle for people that chose to share a bathroom. We were expecting having to wake up early or waiting in line to take a bath, but not what happened at all. Never had to wait a minute :).

Now, to be honest, rooms without a balcony are very, very small and there's no elevator, so you'll climb a few stairs carrying your bags. Showers are really really small as well, and it's hard to take a bath without splashing the whole bathroom. That's just advice for picky people.

Whatever somebody may dislike about this place is well compensated for the awesome location. We were very happy with our experience there and, as a matter of fact, since our flight to L.A. leaves from Madrid and we'll have to spend one more night there after a month traveling, we canceled a reservation in another hotel, so we can stay there again that last night!

Room Tip: If possible, ask for a room with a balcony. I think they are bigger plus, you'll have a view of...
