“ok for spending the night but not more”
Reviewed 26 October 2013

I stayed here for 3 nights and it was ok. My room was very big, but very classically decorated with heavy tapestry. The bed is also big and good to sleep in, but the pillows are really minuscule and not so comfortable. The breakfast is ok, with decent bread and fresh fruits, but the wlan was a joke.
All in all, i guess i would spend a bit mor than i did this time for a better experience.

Location very nice, just some blocks from serrano and paseo castellana on one side, from fuencarral and gran via on the other.quiet street and pretty modern and clean . Only200 meters from bilbao metro station (no elevator in metro though)Internet free,working, helpful and even smiling(very unusual in spain:))) staff but....but.... No soundproofing at all. Doors are terrible. First night i stayed in room 310 which is the worst hotel room ever. Behind the elevator! You cannot sleep ever. The elevator noises ...wosh wosh ring ring. ;) all day, then of course all the barbaric hordes banging their doors as if they were paid to make as much noise as possible. No way to get a good night.s sleep at all. I finally covered my ears with 4 pillows and even like that no way to sleep. No windows, just a shelter like atmosphere. Dont ever get a room ending in 10 in this hotel.
The rest of the week i spent in room 207 which was like double size of 310. At least a window to the street and farther away from the elevator. Same problem though...door banging neanderthals. And i mean slamming like you fall out of your bed at 7 in the morning. And you even get the door banging from the other floors. Unbeeeelieeevableeeee! Really.
Nice ,clean hotel, would actually be a 4 stars but like this no way i might come back. Ahh did i forget to mention the flushing and showering noise you might be able to listen to. Quite a treat...
Another problem is the little 14 inch or so tv screen(sooo small) with spanish channels only. I speak spanish perfectly so no problem, bbut such a lot of foreigners might appreciate some other language.
If they happen to manage the unbearable noise problem they might be in for a 4 star ...like this it is between 2 and 3...sorry.

Room Tip: Get a street side room. Don't ever stay in 310 ...this is awful.

The hotel is located in a quiet street not too distant from the touristic places. Plaza de Espana is a 20 minute walk away, the next metro station just 5 minutes. I had asked for a quiet room and did get one - very calm to the inner courtyard. Also I never heard any noise from other guests.
The interior keeps the 4 star promise, although I didn't like the style of the furniture and decoration. Room and bathroom were large and newly refurbished. The shower worked very well. The flat TV set also seemed to be quite new. Unfortunately it featured only spanish channels. Service was fine.
All in all nothing special, but a quiet room in an adequate location. As the price was very attractive, I give 5 points.

Room Tip: I had a very quiet room to the inner courtyard.

I stay in this Hotel whilst going on Buisness Trips to Madrid as the Office is just around the corner. The Location is great, the staff are friendly. I always enjoy the Breakfasts and the rooms are huge. The furniture is a little outdated and could be modernised but it is good value for money.

Reviewed 20 July 2013 via mobile

I stayed at the Juan de Austria for a weekend in July (12 to 14), room 401. I chose this 4-star hotel because it seemed to be the best value for money option close to a venue I wanted to attend on Saturday night, not too far from the centre and in one of Madrid's nicest areas.
My impressions of the hotel are quite good. Warm and friendly welcome, nice big room, cute view over Madrid's rooftops, hassle free wifi access with strong signal everywhere, spotlessly clean, cute touches here and there (in my floor, rooms are named after painters; mine was El Greco). The staff was really friendly, accomodating, flexible and uncomplicated, which for me is the sign of a well organized and knowlegeable team.
So, in summary:
Things I thought could be improved:
- the minibar seemed to have been left out of its usual place, which should be the big closet where the TV was;
- they could invest on proper amenities rather than providing liquid soap dispensers. This and other small things made me question the 4star classification, although hotel classification in Spain is generally a mistery to me. I'd say this would be more like a superior 3star. This is not a criticism and doesn't change my very positive appreciation of this hotel;
- soundproofing was poor (or our neighbours were loud...). This is a problem in most hotels in Spain and rather annoying if you go to bed at 6 or 7 am, as it usually happens in Madrid
Things I liked:
practically everything! I highlight:
- great staff;
- excellent wifi;
- confort and atmosphere;
- brilliant location (20-25 minutes walk to the Gran Via or two metro stations, with Bilbau Station less than 5 minutes from the hotel; about 2 minutes walk to one of my favourite venues in Madrid)

We paid €57 per night, twin room, room only, which makes of this an incredible value for money option. Would I stay here again? Definitely yes!

I spent two nights here and it was great overall. The view from our room was adorable. It is very close to Bilbao Metro station so quite convenient. It's also quite easy to just walk to the major destination like Plaza Colon (10 min), Gran Via (15 min) or even the museums like Prado or Sofia Reina (20-30 min). I even did a great run in the morning from the hotel to Park Retiro, around it and back (7 miles total). What I like most about it was that I felt like I was just living in a regular neighborhood away from tourists. Behind the museum is a little park as well with cafes for a good cafe con leche y pan for breakfast.

Room Tip: Definitely get a room with a view of the street. It's super cute and you can stand out on the sm...

The hotel is located near Bilbao metro station (2 mins walk), and 15 min walk from the Gran Via. The neighbourhood is very nice and there are restaurants and bars nearby.
The hotel rooms are nicely decorated and the breakfast buffet is average. The staff at the hotel are ok and do need some prompting to get things done (not the same level of customer service I have received from other hotels). The gym is free but the small Jaccuzi and spa area cost extra (8 or 10 Euros per day per person). Normally these would be included in a room tariff so make sure you get it in writing from your travel agent that these are included (or not). Unfortunately I took my agent's word for it that the samll pool was included in the tariff but it wasn't.

All in all an okish hotel in a great location but I think with more research you can do better in Madrid.
