We arrived into Madrid at 10.30 pm and wanted somewhere close to Atocha station. Highly recommend you map your route before you arrive as the station is huge and I think we made hard work of getting there and it took around 20 to 25 minutes. When we left we took the sneaky back way and it took 10 minutes. Security is excellent as you have to ring a bell at street level, then again once you´re in the building. There is a lift so only a couple of steps to carry your gear up. Rooms are large by Spanish standards and spotlessly clean, toiletries provided, enough towels, a safety box and air conditioning in the room and a small shower and toilet with very, very good hot water. Gentleman who was on the desk when we arrived speaks little English, but we managed perfectly well and he was genuinely welcoming. Great little spot. Close to the station, very easy 5 minute walk to the Reina Sofia and about 15 minutes very gentle stroll to the Prado. Lots of cheap eats around including bakeries, small corner grocery shops and a great Chinese Restaurant one street over (same road as the Reina Sofia)
