Surprised by some of the negative reviews on this hotel, my experience was very good in comparison. This was a reward stay and I got upgraded to a suite (which of course contributed to my good experience). Before I booked, I looked up prices and found rooms available from 60 Euros which I thought was very cheap for a Marriott hotel in a big city like Madrid. Anyways, check in was no problem, our room was on the 5th floor and was very nicely appointed with a modern large shower, a large king bed, flat screen tv, fridge and large outdoor patio. Our air con worked just fine, our internet connection worked as well (in the room, did not try from the lobby) and we found the room to be quiet both from other guests and from outside noises. Best part of the hotel is the location, only a couple blocks from Atocha which gets you access to the metro, bus, and long distance train service. Also, the location is rich with good restaurants and bars (unlike reported by another review). There was a great Asturian restaurant 2 blocks down Calle Delicias that were very generous with their tapas, and many other options on the short walk back to the Atocha train station. Puerta Sol is only 3 metro stops away.
We enjoyed our short 1 night stay here and would be happy to stay longer if we had the time.
Travel tip: catch the yellow bus from Atocha train station for a direct trip to Barajas airport for only 5 euros a person. The bus runs 24/7. Otherwise it's around 35 euros for a taxi from the hotel.
