“MODERN, DARK, SEVERE”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 June 2014

Our very modern room was spacious enough,, but rather dark. The beds were a little uncomfortable.... in fact, our friends left and checked into another hotel because the beds were so hard. You can eventually get used to the glass bathroom if you don't care about privacy. The very nice thing about this hotel is their wonderful luggage storage room! We also enjoyed the delicious breakfast buffet and the outstanding personable bartender.

Room Tip: Rooms are a little better in the second back building

AC Atocha is near to the rail station, but we took some wrong turns and took us more time to reach the hotel. But in reality, it is near. Tourist attractions are also nearby, like Rena Sofia museum. Many of the city sight seeing buses also ply from nearby area, so this hotel was very convenient for us.
The location is little inside of the bustling street, so the view from the hotel is not good. But the rooms were clean and comfortable. Had a nice time here.

Upon checking in early morning (~9) purse was stolen right in hotel lobby. Basically well dressed couple come in and asks you were breakfast place is , while another two comes and takes belongings. Another guest saw entire incident and tried to chase couple to no avail. When telling front desk incident, first comment was that they could not help. Something must not have translated well for once they realized what happened, they called police so we could give verbal report over phone, then they proceeded to call all the 800 numbers for us to cancel credit, bank, wireless service. This took over an hour and they even looked for phone numbers on internet for us. When we asked if this happened before, the person said sometimes on weekends. We knew Madrid had pickpockets etc but did not expect it to happen in lobby. After this happened to us, we could not help but notice how many other guest left bags, backpacks etc open in lobby since free wifi only in lobby.

As for room itself: we were in second building. It was not a big deal to go down one floor to get to other building. From what we gathered, superior rooms in main building and normal rooms in other. Basic but functional room in minimalistic modern design. Yes, clear shower but it fogs up and not a big deal. Not crazy about the golf ball shaped soap or metal shower floor but appreciated the rain shower head at end of day. Toilet is separated and behind colored glass so nothing is seen. We were on high floor tend end of hall to avoid noise but you could definitely hear your neighbors doors open and close. They need to put WD 40 or check the hinges.

As a rewards member you get free wifi in room but no free breakfast or room upgrade. As others stated, no coffee maker in room or clock. Even though floors are non smoking we could smell neighbor's who decided to smoke one evening. We called front desk to complain and that's how we found out entire floor non smoking. They said they would send someone but we didn't hear anyone walk the hall (remember you can hear neighbors in hall).

Okay location with easy access to Atocha and buses on Paseo Delicias but after the worse start to stay and noise / smoke factor not sure we would not recommend.

The hotel is clean and modern. The shower setup is weird, but I've been to other hotels with glass showers in the middle of the room. The location is good, but somewhat out of the way. The service however could be improved. The reception staff had a bit of attitude and barely spoke English. I expect better from Marriott.

First time stay with AC Hotel chain. Like the modern touch of it. very good location, right next to the Atocha train station.

My room was on the top floor with french door open to the spacious balcony and it's very lovely!

Room size is good, with very modern and funky bathroom all metal and glass with rain shower head.

Hotel service was ok. most staff speak English, some of them eager to help, some seemed don't care.

I was put in the wing that needs long walk to the main entrance. It doesn't bother me for I like to excercise, but it definitely could be a burden for other who are not fit.

I wish the room insulation is better for I can earily hear hallway noise. Maybe because that I was suffering jetlag, needed to sleep at the odd hours.

But in general, a good experience. will recommend to everyone

I cannot get over how loud this place is in the mornings.
I've never experienced constant door-slamming like I have in this hotel. I stayed here 3 nights and I cannot tell you how good it is going to feel to leave.
It starts at 5 or 6am (depending on when people are checking out?) and doesn't stop all morning until the maid service comes down your hall which is a whole new set of incredibly loud banging and hallway-talking. I can't even imagine how bad a room by an elevator would be.

However, if you sleep with ear plugs for the value it is a good hotel. Close to the train, & a great location when walking to all the sights. Its also very modern & has beautiful courtyards. I love the shower, the kingsize bedroom is spacious and very comfortable to come back to after a long day of sight seeing.
Bottom line. If you don't use earplugs or sleep with a pillow over your head & you're thinking about sleeping past 6am I would suggest looking into a different Marriott.

The hotel was in a decent location, close to Atocha train station, and is a pretty solid value. It has a very modern feel, which makes up for the small rooms. I will say the shower was amazing, though expect the bottom of your feet to be a little torn up form the grates you stand on (though you don't have to deal with water overflowing). I ready a review about how loud it was in the mornings and I agree 100%! Non-stop noise from the maid service is rather distracting/annoying in an otherwise quiet neighborhood (about 3 blocks from the action).

Not a top choice (as I moved a few blocks over to the AC Hotel Carlton) but a solid value if you're not looking to spend over 100 euro.

Room Tip: Not sure what rooms are good, but stay as far away from the elevator as possible
