the free tapas are good, they come with the drinks and they choose what you get. I found a small tip may get you a choice. It was busy, hard to get a spot (there was a soccer game on), but I liked the energy of the place. Beers and mohitos are large.

I was studying abroad in London in 2013. A classmate of mine from Madrid recommended grabbing a bit to eat (and drink) at El Tigre. Holy cow. I am so glad that I stopped in! When you order a huge drink (go with the Sangria) from one of the friendly staff members, you get a free plate of tapas. Luckily, I was with a group of 8, so we had enough food to satisfy ourselves for lunch AND dinner. All of the tapas are different, and absolutely delicious. Will you eat too much? Yes. Will you drink too much? Yes. Is it absolutely worth it? You bet!

Our friend, native from Madrid, suggested us this place to have a good value-for-money experience. El Tigre is not a fancy touristic place and probably that's why is the best! We ordered 2 cañas (small beers) and rhe waiter gave us a huge plate of hot rise with safran and chicken + 5-6 bocadillos (bread with ham or cheese) all for 5?... in total not each! The food is really good and atmosphere even better, a must go for sure.

We came across three El Tigre's within the area, each giving huge tapas with each drink. Beer was 2.50 euros each. Fantastic value with the locals tucking in to the mountain of food. The quality is not the best but quantity makes up for it.

We got huge cocktails for €6 which were really strong that came with a big plate of tapas - paella, chorizo on bread etc. Great for us as we are attempting to be as cheap as possible while still experiencing Madrid's nightlife!
