“Beautiful accommodation in the heart of a vibrant city”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 September 2013 via mobile

Our second stay at this wonderful hotel. This time we brought our friends. Once again our experience couldn't be faulted. There is so much to see within walking distance of the hotel. Take a city sightseeing bus tour or there are a number or amazing art galleries nearby. At night restaurants and bars are within walking distance.

Very central located, almost next door to the Westen Palace and Ritz. The art museums are right on the door step as well. Very short walk to the squares in the other direction. Perhaps slightly under the usual standards of SLH hotels, but it offers extremely value. The food in the restaurant is great, local dishes with some interesting twists. The truffle pasta and acorn fed Iberico ham are great. Stay in one the duplex suite at the top floor. Large terrace to relax and/or have food/drink. The hotel claims to have a pool and gym, but didn;t try those out.

We had a duplex suite on the top floor with a large balcony overlooking the Plaza Cortes with the Ritz in the distance. Only 100m from the Thyssen and 200m from the Prado. And only a leisurely half hour walk from the Royal Palace on the far side of the historic centre. And only 20mins by car from the airport and a Madrid city tour bus stopping almost outside the hotel. For location, nothing could beat this! Helpful and friendly staff. Very clean rooms. Good air conditioning. Excellent breakfast buffet - that potato cake was really yummy. The hotel features genuine Roman Mosaics and artifacts throughout, not just in the public areas. We even had 2 mosaics in our room. Marble floors (and often walls) throughout. A friendly hotel bar was a joy after a day in the city. But we didn't use the restaurant. We wanted to go out and experience real Spanish cuisine. Our first time in Madrid. We now want to go again...

Room Tip: Although the hotel doesn't have a pool, its sister hotel (the Urban) does. It is just around the...

Our two level family room was perfect for our family of 4 in Madrid. The staff were all friendly and we were made to feel most welcome. Everyone at the front desk spoke English and were helpful with recommendations on places to eat. This hotel is in a great location close to the Prado, and is across the street from the congress building. The Mexican embassy is next door. Due to those locations, there are quite alot of guardia police around, so we felt very safe. Walking distance to Plaza Mayor and the Madrid city tour shuttle stops. We chose to have the breakfast buffet at the hotel every day. Servers were quite attentive, wide variety of local food items, with enough traditional US fare that my picky 13 year old was well-fed. I was glad that this hotel was recommended to me and that I booked it, would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: two level family rooms are quite nice. view of interior courtyard, so not much to look at beyond s...

We moved from another hotel to the Hotel Villa Real after not being able to sleep at the other due to street noise. When we rang the HVR we asked for a quiet room. They were able to deliver on this with a room that faced the internal courtyard, perfect for noise-o-phobics like us!
At only an additional 10 euro we surprised at the value offered. This is not a cutting edge hotel by any means, they leave this to their sister hotel around the corner "The Urban". It is though in a great location, close to everything. Very much a faded sister but comfortable,. The buffet breakfast which we also got a deal on @ 14 Euro per head was also very nice.
BTW, guests at the HVR can use the (very shallow) pool and rooftop bar at the Urban and charge back.

My son and I stayed for 4 nights at this Hotel in June, 2013 - lovely hotel in a good location. The hotel looks pleasant from the outside and this is continued inside. The reception area is very small - as is the restaurant and bar area. Reception and Restaurant/Bar staff were very friendly. The bedrooms were clean, modern and well maintained (excellent housekeeping staff) - although you could sometimes hear what was going on in adjacent rooms. The beds were very firm and took some 'getting used to'. Breakfast choice was good and all food was fresh and well presented. Would happily stay here again. Decided to pay for late check-out (as our flight home was in the night) and was disappointed to see that we were charged an extra 70+ euros for the privilege of a few extra hours.

We had been traveling in Europe for 2+ weeks when we arrived at the hotel. Once we got to the room I said that I wished we could have stayed here for all 21 days of our trip! The front desk was welcoming and had a room available at 10:30am. We were given a coupon for complimentary glasses of champagne at the hotel's bar. The room was spacious with a comfortable sitting area that were down a few steps. Our window overlooked Plaza de las Cortes. The room was extremely quiet and our room was right near the elevator. We walked everywhere, and the Prado and the Reina Sofia are right near the hotel. Do not hesitate to ask the front desk person(female) for restaurant recommendations. The recommendations that she gave us were excellent and the one that we went to on the first night was my favorite restaurant of the entire trip. This was truly a wonderful stay!
