We stayed at the Villa Real in late September, 2013. We had chosen it for its proximity to the Prado and Thyssen-Bornemisza Museums, but what we hadn't realized is that it is in the middle of an arts-and-literature quarter of Madrid that includes Cervantes' birthplace and many other features of literary interest. This location turned out to be perfect for us.
Service in the hotel was excellent; the breakfasts (available for a nominal fee) were more than ample, and a computer in the hotel lobby provided free Internet access. The hotel is not large and was built some time ago, but the current configuration has well-appointed bathrooms and wonderful soundproofing. Prices are reasonable for central Madrid.
