I recently traveled to Europe with my family, and because we were spending only 3 nights at Madrid, we decided to book at Ópera Hotel. I booked a triple and a double room since we were 5 persons.

Upon arrival the staff was incredibly nice but the Check-In incredibly slow. We got the room keys and we proceeded to the rooms. I was staying at the triple room with two other members of my family. When we opened the door, we were really surprised to see that the room was very small and had only two single beds.

I went down to the reception and and told them the problem. I was upset because I booked for a triple room, they agrees to change the room, but for my surprise, we ended up in a same size room as the other with a fold-up bed in the corner. My family told me not to "ask for more" so did I, however the room size for a triple room is not what I expected.

On the other hand, the hotel is generally nice, but I don't think that it deserves to be a 4-star hotel. They are lacking way too much and there are a lot of things to fix.

The breakfast itself is good but the space (once again) is very small which makes you feel you are having breakfast in the same table with the other guests. The food is nice but in my opinion and for what I have seen in other hotels I would say that they are lacking variety in hot food. If any person of the management ever reads this, please include chocolate fudge for the "churros"

Ópera Hotel is nice for a 1-night travelers or for couples, not for families, however I must say that the staff was disarmingly nice with us.

If any person of the hotel management ever reads this, please have in consideration what people is expecting to get for what they pay.

Happy Traveling.

Stayed here at the beginning of July for a long weekend and absolutely loved it! The staff were all friendly. The room was quite spacious and luxurious. There was central air con so the room was temp controlled to my liking and quiet in the process. Most of the staff is multilingual and can assist you accordingly. Rooms have an outside shutter type thing to block the sun which is amazing. Only dislike is one of my shutters wouldn't close. Didn't ask the staff to help as it wasn't a big deal. Room was very clean to include the sheets and bathroom. Centrally located and not far from anything. Would def stay again on a future trip

Stayed at the hotel a couple of days ago, booked a promotional rate which included breakfast and WIFI.

Location is good for tourists, walking distance from the historic area (Palacio Real, Sabatini Gardens, etc) and just one block away from the Metro to connect to any other area.

The room looked new and quite clean. Staff was attentive at all times.

The cafe Opera which belongs to the hotel is a good place for a quick lunch or dinner.

I think its great value in a nice and well connected neighbourhood.

We started our search for a Madrid hotel for June 2014 during the summer of 2013. Our requirements were a non-smoking room, a room for two adults and a teenage boy, a central location, and a reservation that could be cancelled with no penalty. It did not take us long to learn there are not many non-smoking hotels and not many rooms for 3. We used Booking.com since its search criteria include non-smoking. We wanted a 3 star or above and a rating of 8 or above. This left us with a possible 76 properties. Then we plugged in our possible dates and started reading the reviews on TripAdvisor and found 4 properties that had a TripAdvisor review rating less than 100. The Hotel Opera had a rating of 52 out of 456 hotels in Madrid.

Now with regard to our stay:

Our flight arrived in Madrid at 8:30 am and when we arrived at the hotel at 10:30, they had our room ready and we were able to check in and start our trip of 4 nights in Madrid. Our plan was to tour the city, go to Segovia by bus, Toledo by train, the zoo which was great, and see a Flamenco show. All were so convenient to the hotel.

We took the airport bus into the city and then a 20 minute walk to the hotel. And we only used a cab once when we departed the city from the train station.

Our room had 3 twin beds, which were the most comfortable beds we ever had in the US or abroad. The room was large length wise, but we were on the top floor which had an angled ceiling that took up space. We were living out of our suitcases anyway so it didn’t matter except when you bumped your head. The bathroom was large and had enough space to add a table. You could hear doors closing, but didn’t hear any noise from the outside. There was a mini bar that had enough space to put a can or two of your own drink in.

The staff was very friendly and helped with directions, activities, restaurants, and spoke English.

The Opera location was wonderful, close to so many things and quiet. We were a two minute walk to the Opera Metro which can get you anywhere in Madrid. We recommend getting familiar with the Metro as soon as possible. Around the Opera Metro station is a Burger King, McDonalds, and pizza which came in handy since our son wanted hamburgers for breakfast. The McDonald’s self-serve kiosks in multiple languages came in handy. Puerta del Sol was a 10-15 minute walk. We used the grocery store in the basement of the El Corte Ingles store which was close and had everything we needed.

Hotel Opera has an amazing location. It's walking distance from many major attractions. El Palacio Real can be seen from the streets right outside the hotel and el Teatro Real is right across from it. The hotel is situated in a location where many streets lead you straight to either la puerta del sol, la calle mayor, la plaza mayor, or el Mercado San Miguel. There are many restaurants around the area to dine at. You can also comfortably walk to El Museo del Prado without gasping for air. The rooms were very clean and had a lovely presentation. Unlike many of the hotels in Spain, the Wifi was God sent. It had great connection in all corners of the hotel. However, it was found that after a certain time at night the Wifi would stop working and resume again in the morning. The staff was very friendly as they helped me find many shops throughout Madrid. The Café Opera had great tapas and the staff was also amicable.

Best location, near to the metro station, just few minutes walk to the palace or the Sol. Toilet facilities need to improve as the drainage system is not good. The water goes very slowly during shower. Haven't try the restaurant downstairs but it looks nice.
