“A perfect place for a pleasure or business trip to Madrid”
Reviewed 6 April 2012

Just returned from a two-day trip to Madrid where I stayed with a number of colleagues at the Westin Palace. While not a luxury hotel, it is certainly every bit first class. I would absolutely recommend the hotel for either a business trip or while on vacation. I reserve five stars for only the very, very best luxury properties and this is a solid four using that scale.

Here are some things that might help you decide to stay at the Westin.

Check in was easy, my room was ready (at 8:00 am) and was upgraded to a bigger room with a top view – I am a SPG Platinum, so I’m sure that helped. One thing that we did do at check in was request to add breakfast to our rate. At 22 Euro, it was significantly less than if we would have gone to breakfast without the add-on. (Do it!)

My room was very nice. King bed, very modern bath, flat screen TV, plenty of plugs. Very large by European standards. Advice – ask for a room with a fountain view. It’s faces the street, but I did not hear any traffic noise.

The location is fantastic. A short walk to the Prado, the Museo Regina Sophia (definitely see that) and the Plaza Mayor. Everywhere we wanted to go, we could walk.

Finally, that 22 Euro breakfast. Worth it – especially if you are hungry in the mornings as not open in the mornings in Madrid. NB, there is a Starbucks around the corner if you need a taste of American coffee.

Room Tip: Try to face the fountain in front of the hotel. There is no business lounge floor.

Hotel is perfectly located in heart of museum district, only blocks from heart of the city. Nice park and walking adjacent. Definitely would recommend.

The Westin Palace was perfect, great location, fantastic service, nice comfortable room and terrific buffet breakfast. We arrived Saturday am non stop from Dulles and went right to the Westin Palace, got in our upgraded room on the 6th floor @10am. We walked every where and went for runs in the park both mornings....just terrific! Thanks CJ at Amex Travel for recommending.

Room Tip: Ask for 6th floor completely remolded

Gracious hotel in a great location close to everything. room was comfortable, well appointed and service fine. Concierges knowledgable and friendly. Food and drink in hotel somewhat pricey, not unexpected, but atmosphere is nice. Our breakfast was included and the buffet is fresh and expansive. I would recommend this hotel to others..one complaint... Internet is pricey if you're not spg. Otherwise, great hotel, great service and a location that can't be beat.

I have stayed at this hotel twice, once on business and once with family. Simply put this is the best possible location for Madrid as a tourist. It is across the street from the Prado and the Thyssen Bornezema. 5 minutes to the Atocha train station in a taxi or metro. 12 minutes to the Puerta Del Sol, and 15 minutes to the Plaza Mayor and Mercado San Miguel. It is maybe 20 minutes to the heart of La Latina. It is a grand old hotel with fully updated rooms with great bathrooms and plasma tvs. Wifi works well here. The buffet breakfast is pricey but elegant and great for choice. The ballroom they have it in is spectacular and a great way to start the day. There are many great Bars and tapas joints within 5 minutes walk. There is even a Starbucks built into the front side of the building.

Room Tip: Try to get a room facing the front and the Paseo Del Prado and the Neptune Fountain.
