My husband and I just spent 3 nights at this magnificent hotel. Walking into the lobby and seeing the elegance just makes you smile.
The staff is unbelievable. They are there to accommodate you and all of your needs. Alejandro Joanas, one of the concierge at the hotel was a major help. We had dinner at La Rotonda Restaurant and Marcos Romero was wonderful. The food was delicious - he treated us royally.
The hotel is in a wonderful location and we were able to walk around and see some amazing sights. We had a private tour guide Nieves Moreno who took us on a tour of Madrid in the afternoon. We then spent the next day with her touring Toledo all day. This is a sight not to be missed.
Make a reservation for dinner at Rafa -you will not be disappointed.
Just be aware of charges on your taxi rides. They are always looking to rip off tourists.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the fountain - it is a beautiful sight. Try to get as high up as possible.

Stayed here for 5 nights- end of March, beginning of April Used points and cash for part of our stay. Liked that they acknowledge SPG guests and make you feel very welcome. If you have been to the Greenbrier Hotel in West Virginia- this is very similar to the main building but with a different color scheme. There are wonderful grand rooms on the main level, where you can sit and relax, have a drink, or have a meal. Like the Greenbrier, the staff is very warm, welcoming, and helpful. It's a large hotel but we never waited more than a minute (if at all) to talk to a conceirge or front desk person, or for an elevator. Breakfast was elegant and had many good choices. Depending what time you arrive for breakfast, the cook- to- order line can have a wait.
The location is excellent and we walked everywhere. So many wonderful museums so close by as well as the Royal Palace and Atocha train station.
The room was very clean and comfortable. The bathroom had 2 sinks and great counter space. It was also quiet and peaceful. We were celebrating our anniversary and a bottle of cava was sent to our room- we really appreciated that!
Part of our stay was on the weekend and the hotel was very busy then. There was a large party there one night so the main level was more crowded than usual. On the day we checked out, there was a large breakfast/press conference going on. As I started to walk outside from checking out at the front desk, carmera men and reporters were following several people and creating quite a commotion. When I thought it was "safe" I started walking and another politician started walking out & pushed me between himself and all of the cameramen and reporters, so he could get away quickly. My husband thought it was funny when I finally got outside because it appeared that the press was stalking me. An adventurous check-out but a wonderful stay. Highly recommend!

My family and I stayed at the Westin Palace for one night and had a great stay. Right when you walk into the lobby you can feel the elegance with a grand staircase and beautifully decorated lobby. The location is perfect - within walking distance to great restaurants, museums, sights and shopping. The rooms were very modern, large and clean. The bed was very comfortable and provided a nice much needed nights sleep. We were upgraded to a room with a king size bed that was very spacious. Bathroom had double sinks which is always nice. Concierge and reception were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent - big selection to choose from. Highly recommend.

My wife and I have stayed at many wonderful hotels in our lifetime and have been fortunate to stay in historic hotels like this one and the thing we love about SPG is they take these historic hotels and renovate them to their glory years (this hotel reminds me of the Hotel Maria Cristina in San Sebastian). In any case we truly enjoyed our stay! First of all kudos to the staff who are attentive, friendly and professional (Cecilla front desk and Jesus and Juan Eduardo during breakfast). Before I begin my review I must commend the front desk reception as there was a mix up with my reservation which I made with SPG points + cash (6,000 + 110 USD which is unbelievable deal as hotel was going for $360 a night USD) and I called SPG platinum line and they worked it out! Thanks once again for making our stay so wonderful!

The non-descript facade hides the beautiful hotel inside. . .because upon entering the foyer of this grande dame you see the juxtaposition of modern and classic elegance with large beautiful tapesteries adorning the large spacious public spaces and modern yet classic sleek marble throughout.

We were greeted by the friendly reception without any delays and where upgraded to a nice suite room 320 which was a large beautiful room (there are some comments about the hotel being in disarray dont pay heed to these naysayers as the hotel is elegant and in excellent condition!. . .some people always feel the glass is half empty and cant be pleased!

Pros:
-Central location near Parque del Retiro and museums like El PRADO,, , and great restaurants like TEn CON Ten . . \
-Exquisite classical yet modern and sleek public spaces
-Amazing modern rooms with spacious and beautifully appointed chic rooms and amazing marble beautiful bathrooms (apparently hotel did recent refurb and has high end Bosch amenities).
--Friendly helpful staff
-Wonderful breakfast (really worth it as elaborate similair to San Sebstian Maria Cristina breakfast but I believe it was 30 euros per person (free for us as SPG platuinum. . ) ..breakfast can be hit or miss for Westin (eg teriible at Westn St Louis but this was exceptional!)
-Apparently has gym although we never used it

Cons:
None really

Everything was just amazing and wonderful for our visit! and would definitely return and would HIGHLY recommend with no reservations!

The only reason I'm not giving the Westin Palace 5*s is that it does not have the personal feel of a great hotel. Having said that, I can't think of another hotel i would prefer to stay at in Madrid: the location is ideal for museums, the beautiful Retiro Park, and the Old Town; the room was perfectly fine, if lacking somewhat in style and charm; and the service was generally excellent, particularly from the front desk and the concierges. Beware of very high prices at the somewhat soulless bar and pass up the watery complimentary coffee for any of the excellent bars nearby.

Our recent stay in the hotel was wonderful. The location is perfect with easy access to museums, plaza(s) and great restaurants. The concierge staff is excellent - giving us a great range of selections from casual tapa(s) to traditional, Spanish dinners. And our room was spacious with a comfy "heavenly" bed.
