“Another Westin Win”
Reviewed 12 July 2014

Stayed here for a total of 3 days (checked in, left, came back after side trip to Lisbon). The service us just awesome. The front desk is very friendly and very helpful. The hotel was very busy, but both times I stayed, they gave me an upgrade, the second time to a junior suite! I have stayed in many Westin hotels but have never received upgrades until now! Tapas at their bar is just awesome, though on the small side compared to tapas in other restaurants. However, they are tapas that you are unlikely to encounter elsewhere and have a "fusion" type of cuisine. The rooms are very nice, the bathrooms are a very nice size and of course the beds are heavenly.
About 15 minute walk to center of restaurants, Gran Via, El Corte Ingles, etc. Also recommend the double decker bus tour if you only have a short time as we did. Well worth the price, and you can get on and off as you please. Kid friendly.

My wife and I loved this hotel. As a SPG Platinum member I received an upgrade to a junior suite! which was a gorgeous room. The breakfast buffet had a fantastic spread and is in a beautiful hall.
The location is excellent - very central and walking distance from the big museums. There are also lots of great restaurants in the neighborhood.

Some suggestions for improvement:
- Front desk - both during check-in and check-out, there were only 2 staff at the front desk so I had to wait 15 minutes to check in and 10 minutes to check out
- the day I arrived, there was a taxi strike and we had to walk with our luggage from the train station. The hotel could have communicated with us giving us advance warning and ideally hired a bus or minivan to collect stranded guests from the airport and train station

Great hotel, very good location - walkable distance to the centre, friendly staff. The rooms were huge and clean. I loved the food, I wish I had bigger stomach to try everything :) Very interesting dining room - with hundreds of butterflies hanging below the ceiling. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Do yourself a favor and try to stay in a Junior Suite in this delightful hotel. Can't say enough good things about the Westin Palace. After a long flight to Madrid, it was the best place to rest. It's the details that make a place. For example, when we had to wait 20 minutes for our room to be ready, we were given 2 complimentary drinks at their beautiful lobby bar. This morning, we woke up early before breakfast was served, and they had great hot coffee and delicious croissants right outside the restaurant. Will never stay anywhere else in Madrid.

Room Tip: Book a junior suite-- well worth it.

This hotel has it all...beautiful, well appointed, amazing staff, luxurious rooms and close to everything! We thoroughly enjoyed our honeymoon stay at this hotel and appreciated all of the assistance provided to us by the front desk and concierge staff --from dining recommendations to assistance booking train tickets. We would highly recommend and would love to come back ourselves!

We have stayed at many lovely Starwood hotels throughout Europe, and I always expect them to be first class. But the staff at this hotel were so friendly to us and our kids, and that was unexpected. The girl at the desk who checked us in was very welcoming and gave the kids welcome bags. The front desk had assigned us connecting rooms, as we had requested, even though this was an upgrade from what we had booked.

We loved the bathroom design and will probably incorporate the separate toilet compartment with opaque glass door into our own bathroom remodel. The free coffee service in the morning was much appreciated. Starbucks is located in the hotel and had fabulous breakfast sandwiches. And the location cannot be beat. We used a combination of cash and points to book our rooms, which made the stay very affordable for a luxury palace.

Across from Prado Museum, Retiro Park, couple minutes walk from Atocha Train Station, and on the edge of old town - tapas within a block, but head deeper into old town for the best. Staff was very accommodating to our family. Beds very comfortable. Interior view rooms not the best, but this is an historic hotel with classic beauty so that can easily be forgiven. F&B very pricey, but many choices within 5 minutes walk anyway.
