This hotel which is a part of the Orient express hotel experience is situated in a beautiful part of old Madrid and is ideally located in the immediate vicinity of the major museum attractions of the Prado and the Thyssen. Its a charming building with an impressive and ornate lobby. The staff here are very helpful and can converse in English and are very accomodative. The Ritz's rooms are well proportioned and exhibit a romantic old world charm.
The in-house dinning experience is a treat with a terrace restaurant that caters to hotel guests to some tasteful delights. All in all a very satisfying stay. Will return.

I stayed in this hotel in december 2009. The hotel is a beautiful old building, near all the most important museums. The service is simply perfect. The tea in the lobby is an unforgettable experience. My room (de luxe city w) was perfect and wasn't old, as others tripadvisors said. If you're looking for a modern hotel, if you love contemporary art, you don't stay at the ritz.

This is one of the best in the city. I had a room overlooking Prado Museum. Rooms are spacious, but look a liitle bit old and tired. The service is great. People in Madrid more often recommend Westin.

Beautiful facade, nice lobby, but the rooms are old and drab. Tiny bathroom and the bidet takes up half the floor space. Definitely in the lower tier of Ritz hotels.

This is another of those old hotels which survive on their name but which should undergo major changes starting with new management. The service is bad, starting with unfriendly staff at the reception who don't even bother to explain the basics such as breakfast time and services available to guests. They only clean rooms in the afternoon which is late for international standards. The quality of food offered for breakfast, for which you pay 38 Euro, is poor, they must be saving money judging by the sub-standard ham (Hamon Iberico) and all the rest. Please don't go for room service as I did, the cook should be fired. They brought sticky, cold pasta and the worst chips I ever had - it shouldn't be too difficult to prepare chips, one would think. Yes, unless you use a low-quality cheap product to start with. And what about laundry? They want 18 euros to wash a shirt, 17 euros for a trouser, 10 euros for panties, 10 euros for one pair of socks, just to mention a few. Save the money and buy new clothes! I cannot believe that this hotel is among the "Leading hotels of the world". So do a favour to yourself and stay elsewhere.

There's likely little to add to the hundreds of 5-stars comments already avalibale on this site. I chose this hotel because it was the site of an event I wished to attend, so that I took the opportunity to extend the occasion for a visit of the beautiful Madrid with my family. E-mail reservation was efficient, although a bit less formal than expected ( no matter on practical grounds). Then everything was about perfect. The belle epoque style has nothing of oldish; on the contary , everything is efficient and mantled by an unique atmospehere that only the tradition of the greatest histiory can offer. The atmosphere is of supreme elegance, softness and comfort. Nothing is missing, nothing is excessive. The numerous people necessarily working to keep eveything to such a level of order are almost invisible; in the rare occasions you meet them, they smile and know you by family name, respectfully showing they really care. The afternoon tea with background piano music is an experience by itself. Breakfast and dinner in a relaxing subdued light offer remarkable kitchen delights. The concierge service was prompt in efficiently meeting any informatìion and reservation request. I found myself remembering this recent 4-days Madrid holiday several times and a serene smile came up to my face. Many still smoke in Spain. Just remember to ask for a room in a non-smoking floor ( if you like it)
