I must admit I was impressed. May not look so good from the outside but the inside was impeccable. Clean, cheap, central located, welcoming and helpful staff. I spent 3 nights with my gf, they cleaned the room every day, gave us a map of the city, hairdryer, clean towels, shampoo etc. Fast and free wifi. 15 min walk from Sol. Small private bathroom with an excellent new shower. Shame I couldn't thank them personally as I left very early in the morning.

We also picked this lodging due to its location and price. At first sight we were very apprehensive, not being backpackers but a young married couple. Although we didn't inform PM of our arrival time, our room was quickly prepared 5 minutes after we arrived. For the price we paid, we were amazed to have daily cleaning (overall it was very clean) and complimentary umbrellas. Great location and adequate facilities and most importantly the staff were always available for questions or support and we were always greeted with a smile and quick turnaround when asking for additional towels or the remotes for the TV and AC. We will definitely come back when in Madrid again.

In the context of the way we were traveling (looking for good price but willing to pay more for quality, not backpackers). This hostel was pretty poor, we arrived to no reception and had to phone someone for assistants, the place is very badly sign posted and in a block of flats on the four floor - we entered the apartment of which has been transformed into many small bedrooms, it was very cheap and I think I would be perfect to backpackers and travellers as it is right in the heart of the city in a very busy interesting street however unfortunately it wasn’t for us at the time, we stayed one night and moved the next day. So great for backpackers but not for couples or someone looking for something a bit nicer.

I stayed this hotel from 3 January till 10 January, 2012. My choice was made by two reasons: 1) by its perfect location at the city center; 2) by its rather low prices. In fact, these are the only but important virtues of this hotel. You need only 10-15 minutes of walk to get the well-known museums Prado and Thyssen-Bornemisza, as well as some other cultural sights, such as Puerta del Sol or Plaza Mayor. As for its prices, they are appropriate for budget travellers (students, young couples, etc.). The main shortcoming of the hotel is that it is very noisy. The noise comes not from the street, but from the hotel receptionist. He can begin to hoover the rooms at midnight or to pull out extra beds from a room at 6 p. m., etc. The walls of the rooms are very thin; so, you must be ready to have some problems while resting in this hotel. For that reason I can recommend it only for people with gross nerves.

It was a very cheap solution and we chose it totally for the location it had to offer, right in the heart of Madrid, where all the other places were very close and at walking distance. Especially pleased about a number of bars, supermarkets and a gym nearby, along with Aston Martin metro station. The hotel is very average and not very clean, but in that case we were find with that as the location beat it all and in fact we never stayed in the hotel. If you are after a great location, go for Pension Magdalena, and if you are after quality and tidiness, look for another property.
