I 've been there with a group of friends. the girl at the receprion was probably in a bad mood when we arrived. We stayed for five nights. The view at the square was great and the hostel is quite close to the museums and next to a metro station. The only disappointing part was that the room wasn't clean and the sheets when we arrived were dirty!!

Very good location. As it was our first time in Madrid, coming out of the metro station at Sol, we were confused and disoriented, but it did not take too long for us to find the street the hotel was in. It was just across the road.
Checking in was at Hostal Victoria I, which was just a few doors passed Hostal Victoria II. We were nervous about this—thought it was be complicated. Just walk a doors passed, ring the bell, go into the building, go up to the floor (think it was the 2nd floor, if I remember correctly), and ring another bell and they'll let you in. There was always someone there when we went, so it was really easy and convenient. The lady checking us in was nice and polite. The man checking us out was also nice—showed us on a metro map how to get to the main train station. You'll really only see them when checking in and out because Hostal Victoria II is in a different building.
We stayed on the 5th floor of Hostal Victoria, with the room with a balcony facing the street. The room was a bit on the small side (but it was fine for us—two twin beds), but it was very clean and relaxing. It had good-working AC and the WIFI connection was great (make sure you ask for the WIFI password when you are checking in at Hostal Victoria I). The balcony was very small, but just look to the right and you'll see the Sol square. We really enjoyed that—seeing people walk around and the activities that go on there, in the early morning, afternoon or even late at night. Sol is a busy, busy place, but it is very quiet inside the room.
For first-timers in Madrid (like us), the location was just great because we were able to go everywhere in the city using the Metro—to Gran Via, Malasana, the Retiro park, and etc. We went to an amazing jazz cafe in the Huertas, which apparently is a good "nightlife" area, and it was just a 10-min walk from the hotel. When we had to go to the main train station, it was just a metro ride away with no stops. The location of the hotel really was so convenient.
For people that need breakfast first thing in the morning...there's no breakfast at this hotel, but there's a mini-fridge in the room so just buy something. There's a hugeee grocery store in one of the big shopping mall buildings at Sol (forgot the name)—there's also a Starbucks there. Also, the Mercado de San Miguel (and Plaza Mayor) are just about 10-15 minute-walk from the hotel. You are pretty much in the center of everything so you have everything you need. For late-night snackers, there's a pizza (by the slice) joint next door and there seems to be loads of people lining up for it all the time.

Really recommend staying there! The price is great for what you get. :) The location will make your stay in Madrid a wonderful one.

Room Tip: Had the room on the fifth floor with the balcony facing the street. We e-mailed them asking for it.

This was a group trip so I had nothing to do with the reservación al thought the lady who organized the trip said they were helpful
We were 25 in a mixture of single double triple and cuadrulpe rooms. The rooms are small but clean tidy and presentable all of ours had bathrooms ensuite
It is set in three separate buildings but felt secure as there are security doors throughout. In my room was me and another lady and we both felt safe
The location is outstanding as it is about 10 meters off the Sol plaza and you couldn't ask for more.

For only 53 euros per night Hostal Victoria II was a little gem right in the heart of the city (Puerta del Sol) The room was small but just big enough for two lads in twin beds. It was very clean and was tidied every day.
You have to go 2 or 3 doors down to Hostal Victoria I to check in and get your key but from then on you don't need to go back till you check out as the main doors are operated by CCTV so they open them when you buzz from the street.
The beds were comfy enough and our room was on the 4th floor facing into the building so there was no view ( not that we cared at all ) but more importantly there was absolutely no noise which could be a problem for rooms facing the very busy and very lively Sol plaza. It is literally 20 metres from the Metro which is very handy.
One slight negative is the receptionists don't really speak English well but you'll get your point across in the end!
If you're on a budget and want to be central then you'll be hard pushed to find something better for the money.

Room Tip: Higher floors with rooms facing away from the Plaza will have less noise than those lower facing the Plaza as the plaza is extremely touristy and lively till very late on in the night

The best thing about this hotel is the location: right in front of lively Puerta del Sol, with the convenience of a Metro station right there, and great tapas bars and restaurants around the corner! The room was small, but very clean and it looks like it was recently updated. We were in the 4th floor and didn't notice any noise from the street at all, closing the windows and shutters blocked the noise completely, the A/C worked fine and looked new as well.
The reception is in another building a few doors down Carretas street, but once you get your key there they monitor the hostal by CCTV and remotely open the main doors for you when you ring them, so there is no need to go there again till you check out.
