“Great Location”
Reviewed 26 April 2014

This hotel was in a wonderful location for walking to all sights in Madrid and the Gran Via. Plaza on the street directly in front of hotel had everything: markets for fresh fruit and produce, restaurants, wine bars, and outside eateries. Staff was friendly. Rooms spacious, smaller bathrooms, and balcony. Noise level from street can get loud at bedtime but located directly in the city.
Great value.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony for fresh air and view in to the plaza. (Noisier but worth the view)

The hotel has a great location, you can get to many plazas, restaurants, and the Mercado de San Miguel by walking. Free breakfast, although it was very basic. The rooms were pretty outdated but overall for the price it's not bad. If you want a cheap hotel in a good location this is a great deal.

While I do agree with all your other reviews that the location is A1 and the rooms are kept beautifully clean, water pressure in the shower excellent, the biggest fault this place has to be that the beds are far too small. My husband who is over 6ft.1" had to sleep with his feet over the end. We told them at reception that this was a problem because of my husband's height, they just shrugged and said all the beds were that length, when asked if we could change our room, they just said that they were full up - as it was Holy Week - and made no effort to accommodate our request, they just showed complete indifference and bearing in mind that we had already paid our 4 nights in advance when we booked, we didn't feel disposed to go out and seek a better hotel so late in the day. During our 4 days there, many new guests came and went so they could have sorted something for us. Interestingly a school party rolled up the day before we left and that seemed so appropriate for the child size beds, I even mentioned in the feedback and suggestion leaflet they gave us to fill in that they should specialise in aiming at the school parties market. The night before we left, we used their computer - for public use in the main hall - to do an on-line check-in for our flight back to London and print off a couple of boarding passes, the concierge reminded me that we had to pay 50 cents for the use of the computer and 10 cents each for the pages printed - how petty can you get.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking a back well never see the light of day and the rooms are very dingy, however they...

Dear Guest,
We always try to satisfy all our guests requirements, but sometimes it may turn impossible, due for instance to high occupancy dates. If we had been able to lodge you in a bigger room, no doubt we would have done it. But appart from being fully booked, as you say we even received a group of young people, and room distribution recommended concentrating them in the same area so it also limited our options.
Regarding the cost of printing boarding pass: person at the front desk proceeded as indicated in notices next to the PC. The small amount charged (0,60 € = 0,50 pence) allows the PC to be available for uses like yours instead of busy with long sessions and ink cartridges always ready and not empty after printing conscienceless.
Thank you for sharing your opinion.

The hotel is centrally located on a beautiful little plaza. The staff is very nice and welcoming and was immediately responsive when we had a problem that needed fixing. The room is very basic, but clean. The mattresses were very comfortable and the shower had excellent water pressure. The balcony over the plaza was wonderful, although know that it is very noisy all night - we used earplugs to sleep and were fine. This is not a luxury hotel, but you can't beat the location for the price.

The location of this hotel could not be better - a short walk to the Plaza Mayor in one direction and to del Prado in the other. Close by the Hostal are a great range of jazz bars and tapas bars, and as it is a pedestrian street there was no night time traffic noise. The staff were very helpful and friendly, and there was safe luggage storage if you checked out and still had time to spend in the city. My room was adequate but very clean, my only minor gripe would be that the bed was a bit uncomfortable, but all in all the Hostal Persal offered good accommodation at a very reasonable cost.

A good basic hotel, very reasonably priced. This is the third time we have stayed here and have found all the staff very helpful each time. Some of the rooms are a bit small as are the bathrooms, but with everything that goes on in Madrid who needs a big room! The restaurant Gingers that is owned by the hotel and is next door in excellent and very reasonably priced.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room put it down on your original booking. These are usually at the back of the...

Great value, superb central location, spotlessly clean, helpful staff and nice breakfast. Party of 6 lads stayed in 3 twin rooms which were simply furnished and slightly on the small side, but didn't matter as everything else was perfect. Easy 5 min walk to Plaza Mayor and Sol. Adjacent to Plz Snta Ana with it's many bars and restaurants. Don't be put off by the term 'hostal', this is an excellent 3* hotel and I will definitely stay again when in Madrid.
