During the last 4 years I almost invariably stay in the village of Barajas when visiting Madrid or the surrounding area. Oddly enough, I didn't know this place. It's a bit of a hard find because it's turning off right at the entrance of the center of town as you exit the highway (the M11 I think it is). The hostal is clean, personnel are kind and very helpful, but rooms are basic and fairly miniature. However, the quality of sleep was very good even for a guy my size (6'5'').
I had a bedside lamp which was useless because there was nowhere to plug it in, an in-room private shower and a shared toilet on the corridor somewhere. With the exception of a disturbed router when I arrived, I had a good strong internet signal both in the 1st floor room and downstairs near the reception. No meals are on offer but you'll find plenty to eat in town anyway. You could walk to the Ts 1-2-3 of the airport, T4 is a bit further out; but then there is the underground to take you either there, or the opposite direction to the center of Madrid. And it was cheap, hence a proper value for money! I'll stay there again.
