The Catolinia Atocha is right by the Atocha train station and not that long a taxi ride from the airport, and a very nice hotel, close to the action of this vibrant city. It is an ultra-modern, trendy boutique inn, with gleaming marble in the public areas. Not quite up to the impression of the main floor is the laminate flooring in the rooms, and the basement restaurant, which is quite narrow as well as underground. The square granite sink was trendy, but not so practical, as it didn't drain well. My room had a pleasant window seat, and the room was a reasonable size for a downtown property. One tiny shortcoming was that there were no tissues in the room. This was my first hotel on a two week coach tour, and it was a good choice by Globus. I would recommend it.

Thank you for the very kind review. We absolutely agree that the square granite sink is very beautiful but not practical. Taking into consideration our guests complaints, the sink supplier is preparing a solution to the problem with the drainage. It would consist of two extra granite pieces, but we currently do not have a confirmed date for this work. I hope it will be fixed for your next stay! Once again, thank you very much indeed for your very kind words. Best regards.

We have visited Madrid just before New Year 2012. We read through many reviews and selected a place wich would allow us to live a walking distance from all the interesting places, as well as comfortable and to expensive. The terrasse of the roof with jacuzzi „bought“ us even though it was winter time and the little pool on the rooftop was closed. By the way the view from the roof is great and it is open from early morning till night.

The staff was exceptionally welcoming and helpful, the room was very clean and cosy though small, but that was not a problem at all. The walls are thick, so the sound isolation was very good. The wooden panels of the stylish interior still smelled fresh wood, which was very nice )
The bathroom was clean and nice. In our room there was a shower cabin (no bathtub), but that was enough for us.

We loved the place and would gladly recommend it to all of our friend travelling to Madrid.
By the way, Marche Saint-Miguel—the best place to eat in Madrid is located just 10–15 minutes walk from the hotel. It is open until 3am in summer, I believe. The food and wine there was so good that after eating in several restaurants we decided to have breakfast only there )

But that I should tell you in another review, n'est pas? )

Room Tip: There are several rooms with the balcony in them, others have just micro-balcony )

It is always nice to receive this kind of review, but I have to say that yours is special (since I guess you stayed in the hotel several months ago!). Thank you very much for your compliments and for recommending the hotel. On the other hand, let me tell you one more thing: you are right; eating in the "Mercado de San Miguel" is awesome, especially during the week (Saturday and Sunday are a little bit crowded). But regarding breakfast, next time I would recommend you try our buffet breakfast. You will enjoy a huge variety of both cold and hot food: different kinds of fresh fruit, homemade cakes and puddings, a big assortment of pastries, cold cuts, toasts, fresh squeezed oranges, fruit juices. You will also find a “Show Cooking” corner where you will be able to ask for any of your favorite warm dishes (fried or scrambled eggs, omelets, bacon...), and all this for a very competitive rate if you book it at the time of your check-in. Best regards from Madrid.

Newly refurbished so rooms are very modern and neat. Particularly liked the bathroom (we actually had a shower) - very clean and well spaced.

The breakfast, included in our room rate, was good. definitely not the biggest buffet breakfast available, but at least everything on display was fresh and enough.

Location is also very good, since it is only a couple of meters away from the metro stop, and only a few minutes walk from the main square

The hotel is immaculate. Clean, tidy and very helpful staff. Everyone from the caretaker to the manager welcomed us and made an effort to smile or assist if needed. This was furthered when the hotel manager sent a bottle of champagne to the room as we were there for a celebration.

The hotel is ideally located near to the San Martin and the Atocha main station. It has links to all areas of Madrid and is a five minute walk away from the Plaza Major. The hotel location is excellent.

The facilities were very good. The roof terrace was very nice, offering impressive views over Madrid, while the hot-tub allowed for a welcome relax, albeit unheated and only luke-warm.

The breakfast was a highlight of the trip! Very clean facilities, a WIDE variety of food, from tortilla to omelette, sausage to mushrooms, then the usual continental selection.

I would recommend this hotel and definitely stay here again if I were to return to Madrid.

Overall, EXCELLENT.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 704. The bed was HUGE.

Very comfortable bedroom with all facilities, except for kettle and cups. A well-equipped bathroom with great shower, Tasteful decor and lighting all round - result of a recent refurbishment of this 'palacete'. The roof-top terrace has loungers and a hot-tub. Great views of the city and busy street below.
The hotel is well-situated: fifteen minutes' walk from Atocha station and next to the 'bohemian' quarter of Madrid (Santa Ana) with lots of restaurants, cafes and boutiques. The multicultural La Latina district, with its markets, Indian and Chinese restaurants is also within easy reach. Although a metro station is close by, we didn't need public transport: all the major attractions were within walking distance, including the major museums, parks and shopping areas.
One niggle: the snackbar on the ground-floor, next to the reception, is over-priced with indifferent service. Our light lunch there included a plate of three small bread rolls which cost 5 Euros! Suggest getting coffee and snacks up the road to enjoy on the hotel's roof terrace.

Room Tip: Many rooms look into a a small inner courtyard. The higher these rooms are, the more light they gain...

Thank you very much for your nice review. Regarding the Snack Bar, we feel sorry you didn't enjoy it as much as the rest of services. We would like you to know that we are planning a new Snack Bar offer for next year (it could be even a little bit earlier). The Snack Bar concept has been created for several hotels in our Company, Hoteles Catalonia, but the idea for next year is adapting it to the different locations. The new line would consist on less references, higher quality and keeping competitive rates. We hope you will visit us again in the future and you will check our new quality standard in the Snack Bar. Best regards from Madrid.

Having friends in Madrid, I visit there once or twice a year and usually stay at the Catalonia Las Cortes, off Plaza Santa Ana (love the hotel and location) . However, because the prices are escalating there, and I wanted to be closer to a Metro stop on this trip (two weeks ago), I decided to try the Catalonia on Calle Atocha.

I was a bit concerned about the noise factor, the hotel being on a very busy street. I was also worried when I saw that the room I reserved (#615, with a terrace) was directly across the elevator. Neither were an issue at all.. the rooms are very soundproofed and I slept blissfully.

The decor here is much more "modern", although not in an over-the-top way like the Melia on Plaza St. Ana, or some of the other design hotels in Madrid and Barcelona. The room was sort of a mini jr. suite, with a small sitting room with sofa and desk, and separate bedroom. Spotlessly clean, thoughtfully designed, fine linens, a great bed, and nice bathroom amenities. The terrace (off the sitting room), was quite large, with two deck chairs and a nice view of the city. And the wifi is free, fast, and reliable.

The front desk people, like the other property, could not be nicer or more helpful. And the Anton Martin station being just down the street is real plus.

I wasn't fond of the lobby-- a large, empty space with little sitting room.

Still, it was a lovely hotel, at a great price for the amenities and location. I haven't tried the other Catalonia hotels, but so far I think the Catalonia management is excellent. I would definitely return!

What can we say? Thank you very much indeed! I wish we had a review like this one every day! We really appreciate your nice words and we hope you will visit us in your next trip to Madrid...Regarding this next visit, let us make you one suggestion: you already know the exclusive and charming Catalonia Las Cortes hotel and our modern and spectacular Catalonia Atocha hotel. Why don't you try with our last opening Catalonia Plaza Mayor? It is a wonderful four starts hotel located in Atocha Street, number 36. Whatever you decide it will be a pleasure for us to meet you again. Best regards from Madrid.
