This hotel is within walking distance of Plaza del Sol and Plaza Mayor. The staff is friendly and the buffet breakfast offered a variety of cheese, meat, beverages, cereal, yogurt, etc. We stayed 2 nights and found the accommodations to be suitable, clean, comfortable beds, and modern. The room had a minibar and working safe. Staff is not able to exchange $ to Euros. We felt comfortable walking to and from the hotel to mayor attractions/restaurant/stores such as Prado Museum, Meson Cinco Jotas located in Plaza Mayor, Chocolateria San Gines, and Corte Ingles.

Dear guest,

Thank you very much for using your valuable time in writing this very kind review. Regarding the money exchange, let us inform you that we are not authorized to change money in the Reception Desk. We always recommend our guests to change the money in the Bank (there are some of them near the hotel) or to use the credit card as a payment method. The exchange rate is usually better if you do it like this than if you change the money in one of the several Exchange Offices that you can find in the city center. We look forward to seeing you again very soon. Best regards from Madrid.

We stayed hee for four nights and really enjoyed it. The location is good because you can walk to a lot of the sights. The best part of it was the sleeping. We had an interior room on a courtyard which was quiet. The drapes really did keep out all the light. Breakfast was quite good. All in all a real nice place to stay.

Stayed for one night on our way to Morocco, the Staff were friendly and helpful with organizing taxis and restaurant. The rooms was clean and tidy, bed was comfortable. We selected this hotel as it was close to the train station and we only had a short walk with suitcases. I would use this hotel again

"I would use this hotel again". As we always say, this is the best compliment you could have ever done to us. So thank you very much for being so kind. But let us make a special request: next time we would like you to stay a bit longer. We understand you were in the way to Morocco, but as you could see, the city of Madrid really deserves a longer stay. If you finally decided to come back to Madrid, we would be glad to have you again in our beautiful hotel. Best regards from Madrid.

The Catalonia Atocha ticks all the boxes. Its well located, comfortable and has all the extras you need. Rooms are a good size and look recently decorated. Gone are the carpets and replaced by modern looking laminate floors. Minibar and safe in the room with large comfortable beds and a modern shower suite. Rooms are nice and cool with effective air con.

Apart from the rooms, the communal areas are clean and simple. There is a bar and restaurant on site but I didn't use either. I have been told by others that the buffet breakfast was excellent.

There is rooftop terrace when you want to get some sun and a nice hot tub too. However, please note that there isn't a full blown swimming pool.

Location is excellent with everything you want nearby. Main tourist sight are within a 10 - 15min walk. There are lots of bars, restaurants and fast food shops within walking distance. The area felt safe at all hours too.

Dear guest,

Thank you very much indeed for your kind review. It is a pity you did not have the opportunity to have breakfast during your stay. But you can try it in your next trip to Madrid (with its two new stations: Pâté assortment and yogurt with fruits). Of course, if you finally decided to stay with us again, that would be the best compliment for us. Let us thank you again for your kindness. Best regards from Madrid.

We only had a short stay in the Catalonia Atocha, and paid EUR 60 for an upgrade to their junior suite - money well spent as the room is an absolute work of art. It features a full scale original fresco on the ceiling, one of the most beautiful parquet floors I have seen, and lovely paneled walls. All of these original features were beautifully complemented by high quality modern furniture and a huge plasma TV - this made not only for a lovely room to look at, but a comfortable one to actually stay in. The shower had excellent water pressure, although I personally had a few instances of the water suddenly changing temperature; the bathroom was overall spacious and functional, with a jacuzzi for those who's enjoy a longer soak.

The hotel is very well located for walking to most of central Madrid, and particularly convenient if you are going to be catching a train to somewhere else in Spain - the Atocha station is a very easy 10 minute downhill walk. A word of advice for those who haven't been on trains in Spain - get there a little early as your luggage will go through screening, and your tickets get checked before you are allowed onto the train.

The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, and we'd certainly consider staying in the same hotel even for a longer stay in Madrid as it is excellently priced.

Room Tip: The junior suite on the 2nd floor is lovely!

Dear guest,

We are especially proud of our Junior Suite decor, as it was a huge challenge for us to match the ancient frescos on the ceiling and the old wooden floor with the new technologies and furniture. And as far as we see, we did it successfully. I will copy your review to our colleagues in the Construction and Refurbishing Department. Thank you again for your nice review. Best regards from Madrid.

We stayed here in early May 2013 - booking on a non refundable basis. We were delighted with the choice (made after consulting Trip Advisor). We had a room on the top floor with easy access to the terrace for hot tub and views. We rated the hotel highly for value, cleanliness, comfort and friendliness of staff. The hotel is particularly well located - being not far from Atocha station - for a day excursion and from the large art galleries etc as well as for local restaurants in the evening. We had breakfast both at the hotel - excellent value when paid at the hotel special rate of €10 each for a generous buffet breakfast rather than the normal online price of €16. Some days we went to a local bar for an orange juice, coffee and a croissant or cake for much less.
We enjoyed the café bar after one particularly long day - and found it good value and convenient. The rooms were smart, modern and restful.
It would be hard to beat this hotel for a trip to Madrid.

Room Tip: If you are not going for a suite with its own balcony, the top floor with aceess to the terrace is a...
