Rooms were very clean, modern and spacious. Had a problem with our shower head and it was fixed right away. Great location! For those interested you can buy beer in the little grocery store right beside the hotel. Turn right when you walk out and it's one or two stores down on the same side of the street as the hotel. A little farther down is a bakery that sells good food and wine. We took the beer, wine and food back to the hotel and sat in the lounge, which was very nice! I would strongly recommend staying at this hotel!

Dear guest,

It is always a big pleasure for us to read such a nice review. As I can see, you were looking for places for buying beer / wine. Next time, do not hesitate to ask our Front Desk Manager or even me, as we can give you the best advice. Near the hotel you can find the best and oldest wine stores in the city, charming places where you can buy wines from all over the world. Thank you again for sharing your opinion about your stay with the rest of users of this site. Best regards from Madrid.

Great location in the heart of the city. For 3 days we haven't used the public transport. Walking distance to All city attractions including Prado, Plaza Mayor, Puerta Del Sol, Gran Via and most important - Atocha station if you're on the way to the airport or other cities in Spain by train. We recived a rear room which was a bit small but was very quiet. The best thing was the shower. Newly renovated, surrounded by black marble with 2 shower heads for a strong stream of hot water. What a delight.

Room Tip: Most of front facing rooms are with 2 beds. The street is noisy during the day but you have a lot of sun light.

Catalonia Atocha is part of a hotel chain in Spain. This is both good and not so great. The good is that virtually all of the hotels are well situated. Catalonia Atocha is very well situated for tourism especially. During our week long stay in room 617, we rarely had to use public transportation. All of the major museums (Prado, Reina Sofia, etc.), El Retiro Park, Sol, Plaza Mayor, La Latina, and much more are all within a 10-15 minute walk. The closest metro is Anton Martin, only 1 block away. If you take the 5euro airport shuttle to The Atocha Rail Station from the airport, the hill up to the hotel is a bit steep with heavy bags, we took the metro 2 stops to avoid this problem. However, at the metro you must carry bags up stairs, so keep this in mind. There are MANY excellent places to eat within 5min-15 min walk, Mercado San Miguel, El Azul, Casa Alberto, El Terral and many more. We loved being near Plaza Santa Ana and Calle Huerta. The area, while not Salamanca Barrio or Gran Via, is not at all seedy, but rather it has mixed uses typically of a city.

We unfortunately were not impressed with the hotel or services during our stay. We emailed and requested early check in, never got a response. We arrived at 1pm, and while check in is 3pm, a hotel accommodating international travelers could have offered us a drink of water etc while we waited for our room to be ready. Instead, after a 10 hour travel day, we were given a map and the check in person suggested that we walk around. When you book through the hotel website, we were to be offered water and a drink. We never got the bottled water. The rooms are small and a bit dark, though we had a terrace room. Don't bother the book a terrace room after October 15, Madrid was quite cold in November (Thanksgiving Week), FYI. The white laminated wood floors are dusty. The hotel changed their cable channel package in the middle of our stay and guests weren't notified, so we were confused about where to find channels. No channel guide was ever provided before or after the channel change. We had to keep asking for more than 2 sets of towels for morning and evening use. There are no concierge services at all really. The bench at the foot of our bed broke the first night when we placed a bag on it, and was replaced upon our return to the room. Hotel staff never paid much attention to us, they don't greet guests just as another poster pointed out. Overall, the service was not bad, just lackluster, the type you expect from a chain.

I would only stay here again for a very good rate and for the very location.

Room Tip: Terrace room is nice, but forget in the winter. Get a high floor to avoid street noise.

We stayed here for 3 nights in December and it is a great base to explore Madrid. Very easy to get to from the airport, just get the express bus to the final stop (Atocha Renfe) and from there is a 10 walk. The hotel is within 5 min walk of Santa Ana and a number of other main plazas. Plenty of tapas bars and restaurants nearby so we didn't actually use the metro at all on this trip. The rooms are quiet small but very modern and contain all that you need, including a powerful walk in shower. The staff are friendly and very helpful. Overall this is a good value for money hotel which is ideal for location. There is no wow factor but for a short break I would recomend.
