Away from the hustle and bustle of central Madrid, this hotel is in a relatively quiet location. Although alongside a main road, that road is not particularly busy in the evenings.
I was accommodated in a reasonably sized room with a spacious bathroom that boasted an excellent shower.Comfortable bed and plenty of drawer/cupboard space. No view to speak of, but I didn't specifically request one and there doesn't seem to be that much of architectural significance to look out on in the area anyway. The upkeep of the room and the hotel's public areas is extremely good.
There is a large breakfast room providing a wide selection of cold meats, cheeses and breads from the buffet and hot egg and bacon dishes can be prepared to order from a separate station. There is also a small dining area where dinner is served from around 9pm. The menu choice is rather restricted but on the one occasion I used it I found the food and service good, and the portions plentiful. This is a useful facility if you are arriving late in the evening and don't wish to pop out to find a restaurant. I only needed minimal contact with the Reception staff, but they were always friendly and helpful. All in all, considering my package included the good quality breakfast, the rate was very good value for a 4 star establishment.
The surrounding area is very safe, it perhaps could be described as a bit bland, but this is primarily a business district. If you want to stay in the centre of the action then this hotel is not for you, but there are good and plentiful connections from the nearby Metro (Avenida de America) and you can be in the centre in around 15 mins or less. As a previous reveiwer has mentioned, you could walk to Retiro Park (worth a visit!) in around 15 minutes. There are also Metro links to Barajas Airport (changing at Colombia). You can buy Metro tickets from the Tourist Board office at the airport. TIP - The escalators at Avenida de America Station do not go the whole way to street level and might be a bit of a struggle if you have heavy luggage. In that case there is an Airport Bus that runs to Avenida de America and stops closer to the hotel than the Metro Station, providing a cheaper alternative to taxis.
