This is a true spot to stay; both as first-timer and more experienced visitor in Madrid.
Is it possible to find a more in-the-middle-of-everything hotel or hostal in Madrid for such a value? Don't think so. .
Plaza Mayor, Gran Via, Parco Retiro, Salamanca, museums Reina Sofia and Prado, La Latina.. . . youre in the middle of this.
Ok, note that bathrooms are SMALL, as well as Tiny access from the street.
But, staff is very kind, polite and helpful. They may miss on some things, but also have useful tips etc.
Everything is very clean Nice and cozy.
One downer was breakfast in nearby cafe with only standard continental breakf. Helpful and smiling staff, but then boring food.
I will abs recommend this hostal!!

Given its cheap prices, excellent location and extremely helpful and knowledgeable staff, this low-cost, no-frills place gives you an amazing value. We arrived early in the morning and were gritted with breakfast coupons to a café just across the street, a small bottle of brut, chocolates and the ability to leave our luggage at the reception so we could start exploring the city right away, before our room was ready. This hotel is located right in the centre, walking distance to Plaza Major, Royal palace and the museums, and some 20 metres from the closest metro station. Takes about 40 mins to reach the airport or 15 minutes to get to the rail station.
The pedestrian street this hotel is facing has its share of the sex trade workers at night but it's still extremely safe and friendly.

I would strongly recommend this place to anyone.

Room Tip: I would suggest to ask for the room overlooking the patio as Gran Via is noisy, day or night. We got...

We stayed in Hostal Madrid in Sol area for 3 night. It is very convenient to walk to Plaza mayor shopping street and attraction area. Easy to get a metro and bus. Reasonable price and friendly staff. WiFi is free but not good in connection. We recommend for the short stay if you come to Madrid.

Nice room, just like the picture very clean and tidy; great location, a 2m walk from Puerta del Sol, has 3 metro stations nearby, 50 meters away of Gran Via and many many shops; very nice staff, very friendly and helpfull.

Rooms: We stayed here for 3 nights last month. We got what we paid for. Rooms here are really cheap. Though this was a hostel, we had a small room and toilet to ourselves. Room was big enough for the price we paid. Toilets dont have the normal doors but sliding ones. Shower and toilet is very small and the washbasin is inside the hostel room.
Both the guy and the lady at the reception were really sweet.
The thing I liked the most is the animals they made out of towels everyday in the rooms stuffed with chocolates.

Breakfast: We did not have breakfast here but think the breakfast venue was somewhere outside the hostel.

Location: We chose this hostel for its location and price. Less than half a mile away from Gran Via metro station, very close to Puerta Del Sol which is like Madrid's city centre. This hostel is right in the middle of everything.
The hostel is on the 4th floor of the building but I think this is usual for hostels.

We only paid 110 for the two of us for three nights which was excellent. The hostal is very central close to plaza mayor Puerto de sol and gran via. We took the metro from the airport line 8 and then line 10 took us to plaza espana and then a 5 minute walk along gran via look out for el Cortes ingles and the hostel is behind there. The hostel in on 4th floor and the lift only takes two people. If you have lots of luggage it's a long walk up the stairs. Check in is from 1pm and check out is 12pm. The girl on reception speaks English but I would advise taking a Spanish phrasebook for when your out and about in bars shops and reataurants. We had room 8 and it was small clean and pleasant. Decorated a bit tacky in an ikea way but for what we paid it was good. The shower had plenty of hot water. The room was really hot and the first night we struggled to sleep as the heat was unbearable there was proper heating in the room but no way of turning it down. On the next 2 nights we left window open and this was perfect.the reason we have not given it a 5 rating is the noise from upstairs in the attic rooms. The sound proofing was pretty bad and the floorboards were terrible.could heard every step they took and at times felt like they were going to fall through the ceiling.I'm not a light sleeper but was repeatedly woken up which is not ideal . J would recommend packing ear plugs and you will not have an issue sleeping
