After lunch at Mingos, we strolled along the river towards the Metro at Principe Pio. The wide pavement is lined with trees and has small playgrounds dotted along it's length which kept my four year old nephew very happy. We stopped at a restaurant on the opposite side for a drink before exploring a temporary army exhibition. A very very pleasant walk.

Madrid Rio has been done up! It's worth a little wander if you're down at the Matadero or Vincente Calderon. Walking between these two points only takes about 15 minutes, but the park is beautiful. There are football pitches and skate parks, which are prime people watching spots. You can even hire bikes if you're feeling energetic. There's a cafe in the middle, plus loads of plants, fountains and even a space known as 'the beach'. Kids are well catered for, with ice-cream stands and adventure play areas, too. It's a really beautiful place to see the Puente de Toledo, especially lit up at dusk

There are beautiful bridges over the river, and specially if you decide to go for a walk, it's amazing. In autumn, all leaves are orange and yellow and red.

Best spot for a long walk and paradise for sportive people and kids. Superb place to visit with the family. They have different games for kids smartly done, small fountains where the kids and people can refresh themselves, nice sun bathing area, lots of green space and nice cafe bars around the walk path. Water available in every spot, with the heat of madrid is very wise and well made.

Madrid Rio is a linear park along the banks of the Manzanares river, from Principe Pío station to the Matadero cultural center in Legazpi. It is an architectural divertimento, a peppering of small pads for the enjoyment of the city. Hundreds of options for kids, from a skatepark to zip lines, a waterpark, open terrazas for everyone's refreshment and the modest river as a backdrop. Walking, skating, biking, jogging, all welcomed. Or just take a nap under the trees. Great for families, superb for kids.
