“Ask for a room on the front!”
Reviewed 20 March 2014

We stayed here for 2 nights and then came back a week later for another night. The hotel itself is nice, in a safe area near the main train station and park. Our first two nights, we had a room on the front of the hotel, over-looking the road. We had a beautiful balcony with a view of the Pantheon of Illustrious Men. But, the night we returned, we were on the back of the hotel - no balcony, no view. Either way the rooms were nice and clean - I really liked the laminate floors compared to carpet. The staff was friendly and the breakfast was delicious. I would stay here again.

First of all the Hotel Agumar is very well located!
We were a group of 3 friends. Our stay was very comfortable. We each had our own beds, comfortable amount of space, and enough outlets to recharge our devices. Wifi access was good. And service was great. Hotel staff is very helpful. They immediately helped us with our sizable bags and assisted us with anything we needed. On a 3 week vacation using numerous hotels this one was my favorite!

Has adequate facilities but the rooms need an upgrade , like many hotels in Spain there are no non smoking rooms and for people who are sensitive to cigarette smoke this is a problem. The breakfast and location are good, there ismo free wifi. The staff is helpful and friendly

Nice hotel near Retiro park and Atocha Renfe station. Peaceful atmosphere. - Not much more to say. Just an ordinary ok hotel for a short stay. 10 min walk to the station. Check what you order. You may get free WiFi or you may have to pay for the same.

Arrived with family as part of a tour, stayed two days, and upon our return for one night before leaving to go back to the states was assigned a room by the elevator. This was a nightmare. Bugs in the room and a group of approximately nine young men banging walls talking loud right in front of our room. Called the reception desk and was told that they were aware of the problem, and had told the young men that if they did not stop they would call the police but did nothing. When we went to the reception desk in person, after calling several times and getting no relief, we asked to be transferred to another room and were told none were available. Hate this place. Would certainly not recommend it.

We travelled to Spain on a tour and we stayed at this hotel. As a tour hotel, there is a lot of activity, and there was at least one other tour staying at the hotel.

How did we like it? There was little to complain about. Pros: Wide stairwells, spacious rooms, good housekeeping, helpful staff especially since our Spanish is nearly non-existant. Not all the staff spoke english, but the ones that did were fluent. Quite close to town, 5 min walk to the Atocha train station, perhaps 30 minute walk to the Plaza Mayor. Cons: The breakfast is very continental, it won't really be comforting to North-Americans. The elevator was slow and small, the stairs were the best option if you could manage.

Overall, this was a nice place to get settled and start our trip of Europe. We felt the neighborhood was safe and there were many attractions nearby, including the Prada museum, only 10 minutes walk. Beds were comfortable, wake-up calls were prompt, the washroom was mostly clean and tidy. The shower takes getting used to for North-Americans. Also, those of us who have to avoid smoking will be challenged. While it's a non-smoking hotel, there was smoking in the bar and nobody really enforces the rule.

Also, there's no wifi in the lobby, as far as we could tell. We never succeeded in getting it working. Wifi in the rooms was fine, but I don't think it was included.

What a shocker. Spoke to a very rude and hostel Receptionist( Anna). Just because their website says wifi in room & public area does not mean its free. But on their website it did not include the price as did for car park. If they are going to charge for wifi, why not state it on their website as they did with parking?

Hotel is NOT 4 star. Rather basic, it's a 3 star at best.
