“Close to shopping areas, museums and transportation”
Reviewed 22 October 2013

We arrived two days ahead of time as we had booked a tour with Trafalgar. Since we were scheduled to stay at this hotel we decided to book a room there for the first two days. Because of a long flight which arrived early in the morning we arrived at the hotel five hours before check in. I had emailed the front desk asking if we could keep or luggage in the hotel until reservation time. Of course it was agreed that we could leave the suitcases and that we could return after twelve and they would try to have a room available for us. However, other hotel guests from the same tour arrived at the same time and were given a room upon arrival.
The front desk personnel were professional and took care of us without a problem during our check in time. If we had a question during our stay, personnel tried their best to be helpful.
The room we were given was pleasant. Nothing special but the bathroom had extra incidentals for people who forget their toothbrush, razor, paste. The shampoo does double duty as bath soap so, bring your own. I tried the shampoo even though I had my own. Let me advise you that it is better to make the sacrifice and carry your toiletries. You may not like what the shampoo does to your hair. This is especially true if you wash it every day.
Housekeeping is not very good. Our sheets were changed after three days and we had to request that they be changed. Housekeeping seems to be overworked as bed and bathroom were not attended too until late in the day. We were gone from the early morning until late in the day but always came back to an unmade bed and a dirty bathroom. Towels are not replaced if you leave them hanging which we did. We spoke to a very nice housekeeping person and she was helpful in getting our room cleaned right before we went to bed on our second day of our stay. The bathroom had not been cleaned nor the beds made. According to the hotel maid, the door had a "do not disturb" on the door. This was not true. I think that when the maid came by, she was told to come back but she never did and as far as I am concerned, she used the sign issue as an excuse. We never used the door sign during our stay.
The hotel is very close to many restaurants which range from the inexpensive to the higher quality food. The bus station is very close and so are many of the sights you must see.
Breakfast was included and the food available consisted of some fresh fruit, some hot food, cold cuts, eggs, Spanish specialties, coffee, tea, etc. A good value. You may eat as much or as little as you wish.
In spite of the housekeeping issue, I found the location to be excellent and safe.

It was close to the buss station Attocha where the airport buss stops. It is not long from there but you have to walk ca 15 minutes. My room was very big and clean. I had no big expectations. I was surprised that there was even the rasor and tooth brush in the bathroom. You don´t need to take any od cosmetics with you. Breakfast bufe was very big and nice. I have spent here nice 4 nights. I went to bed around midnight and it was already quiet. Only one disadvantage was that the stuff is not so good in English and that the alarm didn´t work at my room. I can reccomend this hotel.

The hotel is located about 15 minutes walk from the station and is easily reached by car or on foot. The hotel staff are very good and will try to help in any way they can. Checking in was easy and quick and the four lifts seemed to be very quick to operate. The rooms were just a little bit tired but were clean and comfortable. The bar is OK and the restaurant was well serviced, the food was designed to a price and so could have been better. There is a small garden and outside bar which when open is very nice and very peaceful. The bathroom was good with a good supply of goodies and extras available. The location is about 20 minutes from the Reina Sofia Museum and only 30 minutes from the Prado so with all the local bars and restaurants the location was very good.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the garden are the quietest.

The hotel itself is in a nice location, walking distance for most and the rooms are nice enough as well as clean. The issue I had with this hotel is the service you receive at the front desk, when I was checking in the employee seemed as if I was putting her out making her do her job. Also, if you are expecting the front desk to setup transportation from the hotel to the airport via taxi forget about it. The response I received was to go out across the street into the highway, flag a cab down "when they go by" and instruct them to meet you back at the hotel for pickup. This is the first I have heard of a hotel not being able to setup a taxi pickup and is something that will prevent me from staying at this location in the future.

This hotel is located in Atocha and is a short distance from the Atocha Train station. The hotel is comfortable, and the room more than adequate, my only improvement would be to add some more English programming. The staff is very helpful, and the restaurant on the ground floor provided a good array of dishes.

We (my husband and I) were in the Trafalgar group, stayed 3 nights from April 19-April 21 2013 and then again on May 2 2013. Based on Trafalgar's brochure/itinerary we expected a true 4 star hotel but we were somewhat disappointed. The room was a bit small, the beds were 2 twins pushed together and there was hardly space for our 2 luggage bags. However the room was clean and the bathroom amenities was adequate. The hotel itself was situated in a very "unhappening" area, but since we were in a tour group , that did not bother us so much because the programs and transport were already taken care of. If you are on your own, I'd suggest a more central location nearer to where the actions are. Breakfast was okay, the usual breakfast things and coffee was from a coffee machine. Did not interact much with the hotel staff because all was done by the travel director but they seemed cordial enough.

Room Tip: If you are a couple, be sure to ask for a queen or king size bed, not 2 twins pushed together

We were at this hotel at the beginning and end of a Trafalgar tour. I can't say anything really bad about the hotel, just nothing exceptional. It isn't near the center of things, being behind the central RR station. It's clean, modern enough and has a decent breakfast buffet. Standard hotel and not memorable. I can't say stay away, because if you don't care about location, it is a decent alternative. On a tour, location isn't as big a thing because you are transported to the main attractions. On your own, it makes more of a difference, at least to me. As an aside, I really liked Madrid, especially the old town. It is a big city and there is lots of traffic, but I enjoyed it.
