Stayed here for a brief stop in Madrid.
The location is very convenient to the Atocha metro stop which can put you at any main attraction within 8 minutes.

The staff spoke very good english for those who can not speak spanish.
Rooms were very clean and of good size as far as European standards.
I would rank the AC carlton somewhere between a Courtyard and a Marriott in quality, but the price reflected this and made it a great value for budget conscious travelers that do not want to sacrifice safety or quality.
One really nice perk is that the hotel offers both free wifi and free minibar.
The minibar was not all that impressive as in only had a couple cokes, fanta, and water but it was a pleasant surprise anyway.

Getting Here: You can either take the Metro from the airport for 2.50 euro or take the express bus which picks up at the airport every 20 minutes for 20 euro. The bus is quicker and does not require a train transfer but if you are buying a 24 hour pass on the metro you can save a couple euro taking the metro.

We wanted a quiet area and found it even though near train station. Very nice area and just steps from train station-we walked with our luggage. Nice museum area-all major museums within walking distance. Easy metro to major sites.
Hotel room was most spacious we have ever had in Europe-huge room-contemporary decor, dark and quiet for great sleeping. And-free mini-bar!
Hotel staff was most gracious and helpful.
Would highly recommend.

Room Tip: I think it was 217-not on main street and very quiet.

We stopped here some time ago - but I promised myself I'd write a review. The hotel is located in a good spot - not far from all you need. We found the restaurant in the hotel to be excellent - try the sangria ... :) I could go on my morning walks in complete safety and we never had a problem with transport. Lovely foyer and welcome. Our - room - for 3 - was large and airy with a good bathroom. It was a corner room. It was an easy walk up to the spot where many of the tourist busses departed and to many of the local eateries. Well worth thinking of if you plan to stop in Madrid. I'd go back !

Room Tip: Check the net for deals - especially breakfast.

My husband and I booked our first trip to Spain last November, and being a loyal Marriott customer, stayed at this AC Hotel location and were not disappointed. We were in a suite, and I absolutely loved the room and bathroom! Each and every hotel staff member we met provided very friendly and exceptional service. After arriving from the US and not being on the same time clock, we awoke for our first morning well after the breakfast service hours were over and the kitchen was closed, but the chef volunteered to make us a wonderful breakfast and we sure appreciated it! Although the train station is very close, we took taxis almost everywhere we went and were only minutes away from Plaza Mayor, the area in which we spent most of our very short 3-day weekend.

Although my husband speaks Spanish, I don't, and all of the hotel staff spoke English and were very easy to communicate with, friendly and had no troubles at all understanding me.

I would definitely stay here again when in town and upgrade to the suite.... it will cost you less than many other hotels, you will still save a ton of money, get a great room and are close to many wonderful places.

I will certainly stay here again when we return in a few months!

Room Tip: Upgrading to a suite is well worth the $$... the bathrooms are wonderful and the king sized beds ar...

welcome gift? concierge lounge? who cares! This hotel is a 3 min walk to Reina Sofia, 5 min walk to Prado and Atocha station. Subway only 2 blocks away and bus stop across the street. helpfull staff and a pretty decent breakfast. Fully renovated and comfortable rooms and free minibar. there's no free wifi in the room, only in the lobby.

After figuring out how to buy a Metro ticket, we eventually arrived at the hotel from the airport in less than an hour. We walked about fifteen minutes out of the way. The hotel is easy to find and is situated on a nice busy main street. Many thanks to the other reviewers who gave detailed directions, which I downloaded to my phone!

As a Platinum Marriott member, we got a small jar of candy as a welcome gift, but no free breakfast or afternoon appetizers. We ended up at some lively coffee shops in the residential area for breakfast (walk south of the hotel opposite the museum area). One place worth mentioning for dinner is Museo del Jamon – located near the Prada. The front is a lively crowded tapas bar, bakery and deli so you must walk to the back to get to the restaurant.

We had a room facing the inside courtyard so we didn’t have a view of all the action on the street. This was just fine -- no view, no noise! By the way, you must put your room key in a key holder near the door after you enter the room to turn the lights on. This is not only good for energy, but also convenient because you never have to hunt for the room key.

The room had two ultra modern black chairs and a glass table at the end of the really nice firm bed. There was a sleek desk opposite the bed and above it was a flat screen TV. Below the desk was a fully stocked mini bar and yes, just like everyone said in other reviews, they give you free soft drinks, water and beer! We stayed three days and they stocked the mini bar each day!

We liked the huge bathroom see through glass double-head rainforest shower head, large separate Jacuzzi bath tub, towel warmer and plenty of space to walk around and do yoga under the dramatic ceiling spotlights. There was also about a 10 inch round magnifying mirror, which was perfect for shaving.

Give me wood floors, wood closets and wood walls in a hotel any day and yes the wood made the room seem cleaner than hotels with carpet where the maid sprays that deodorizer to give the room a fresh smell. This room just smelled clean with no artificial fragrance.

The hotel had great front desk staff. There were tables and a small lounge area in the lobby across from a small bar stand – something you might have in your house – a few feet from the boutique elevator, which could fit two people and two pieces of luggage or three people and no luggage at a time. Four people at a time in that elevator would be pressing it!

Overall, this is a fine hotel near everything!

Room Tip: Get a room facing the courtyard!

A tiny hotel located in shady area but next to museum avenue. Easily walk to several museums. We stayed in Dec 2011 and the hotel was recently bought by Marriott but not fully integrated. Because of our Marriott status, we got upgraded to their suite but the room was small and the heater did not work properly. No concierge lounge, no welcome gift, no complimentary breakfast and NO VIEW. Decent buffet breakfast with reasonable price. Not worth for Marriott cat4
