“perfect for visiting downtown madrid”
Reviewed 3 February 2012

The hotel is perfectly situated for a trip to Madrid. It is no more than 5 minutes by foot to visit the "Reina Sofia" and no more than 20 minutes by foot or approx. 5 min by subway from "Puerta del Sol" and "Gran Via".
Coming in from the Barajas airport, the hotel is situated in direct neighborhood of the Ceranias Renfe station of "Delicias" as well as the metro station of "Palos de la Frontera" (not sure if i remember the name 100% right). If your flying Iberia you will most probably land in Terminal T4 of Barajas, which has a station of Cercanias Renfe. There is a direct train, which takes about 30 minutes.
We had a standard double room, which was clean and reasonably big. The furniture looks rather new and stylish. Very surprisingly the minibar was included in the fare (although there's no alcoholic stuff). The clerks we were talking to have all been very nice and helpful.

Hotel is located close to Atocha railway station, the main hub for high speed rail in Spain (AVE). Rooms are nicely proportion but a bit tired and outdated. Good breakfast offering a wide range of products and dishes. Good value for money!

I chose this hotel mostly on location - it is not far from the Atocha train station - but was pleasantly surprised to discover that is was a high quality place!

The decor of the rooms was so interesting - my girlfriend, who is more widel traveled than I, said it reminded her of Japanese-style decor. While the room was not large, the space was used in economical, interesting ways. There was music in the bathroom, a sliding door to give the person using the bathroom privacy, and the shape of everything was delightful.

We actually stayed here on two seperate days, at the beginning and end of our stay in Spain. In between, we traveled around Spain. AC Carlton was good to let us leave most of our luggage (purchases and so forth) during the time we were away in a locked room with them, for a fee. Also, of the two rooms we stayed in, the first was on a lower floor and was a bit nicer than the second one.

The hotel also seemed to have lots of nice services, like international newspapers and a dining room where breakfast was served in the morning and snacks and beverages in the afternoon. All the sorts of things you would expect in a really good hotel, I suppose, but for the price (less than 100 euros/night), and considering the amount of space, I was delighted to see all these amenities.

Room Tip: As I said earlier, the rooms on the lower floor seem a bit nicer than those higher up - the decor is...

Stayed her with my partner for 3 nights in January 2012. It is a 5 min walk around the corner from the Atocha bus station. We got the Express bus from the airport which costs €2 per person and turn left when you exit the station. From the moment we arrived the staff were excellent and most helpful. Ask about sightseeing, restaurants, etc and they will assist. Most speak very fluent English. We chose a high up room and it was very spacious. The Bed was a Queen size and was the most comfortable that I have ever slept in at any hotel. The only English channel on the TV is the BBC World service but it did not matter to us as we spent most of our time out ad about. Location meant you were about a 15 to 20 min walk to the city centre but taxis were easily available if required. Overall I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Madrid.

Room Tip: We chose a high floor with a Queen bed

Location, location, location!

1. Situated between two metro stops, one of which is only a 5 minute walk away.
2. 5 minutes from Atocha train station - perfect for daytripping and catching a train to Cordoba
3. Reina Sofia is only a 5 minute walk away (go when it's free!)
4. Other major attractions only 15-20 minute walk away.
5. Super market was only two blocks away

Perks!!

1. Free Mini-bar, which was restocked every day!! This made my wife very happy.
2. FreeWifi in lobby ... eh, I wish they had this in the room, but oh well.
3. Spacious rooms!
4. Inexpensive compared to major international brands. We booked early so we saved a lot.

7 minute walk to the train station, with trains to everywhere, as well as the drop off/pick up point for the airport express bus (2 euros). The hotel has the exterior charm of mid-century architecture (think: Palm Springs), with a brand new (circa 2011) interior! VERY sleek, modern and every detail inside is completely new. Room was average European size; bathroom is new, marble, and large. Two small complaints about the bathroom. The soap is shaped like a golf ball and of similar size, and hard to hold and use. The sink is VERY shallow (2 1/2 inches deep), and almost useless. This is an example of being TOO modern, only to be trendy! The door to the bathroom is sliding frosted glass. A little odd and doesn't give one the sense of privacy we expect.
Breakfast was included in my room rate and was good, but not worth 14 euros if one has to pay. Internet access provided free in the lobby and dining room.
On to the staff...absolutely outstanding. I had lost some things, and one was turned in to the front desk, AND then the staff went on a hunt for the other items I had lost, and found them too!! Above and beyond the call of duty!
I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough, and it is an excellent addition to the Marriott chain.

Stayed here for a brief stop in Madrid.
The location is very convenient to the Atocha metro stop which can put you at any main attraction within 8 minutes.

The staff spoke very good english for those who can not speak spanish.
Rooms were very clean and of good size as far as European standards.
I would rank the AC carlton somewhere between a Courtyard and a Marriott in quality, but the price reflected this and made it a great value for budget conscious travelers that do not want to sacrifice safety or quality.
One really nice perk is that the hotel offers both free wifi and free minibar.
The minibar was not all that impressive as in only had a couple cokes, fanta, and water but it was a pleasant surprise anyway.

Getting Here: You can either take the Metro from the airport for 2.50 euro or take the express bus which picks up at the airport every 20 minutes for 20 euro. The bus is quicker and does not require a train transfer but if you are buying a 24 hour pass on the metro you can save a couple euro taking the metro.
