I selected this hotel because it is a Marriott property. I was, admittedly, not familiar with the AC brand when making the reservation. It is relatively new to Marriott - at least in Spain. Having been to Madrid before and having no Marriott properties in the country, I was pleased to see that Marriott had added/purchased the AC and Autograph Collection hotels.

While the hotel is in a good location from the standpoint that it is quite convenient to the train station, museums, parks, shopping and public transportation - the hotel itself is on a seemingly sketchy street in a seemingly sketchy area. I was a bit disappointed when we arrived.

The front desk staff speaks marginal English which made checking in and asking questions somewhat difficult. The rooms are functional, but definitely no-frills. The website describes AC hotels as upper moderate tier lifestyle hotel brands with stylish urban hotels. I'm not sure this hotel fits that description. I found it to be very old and very dark.

On my next trip, I will select one of the Marriott Autograph Collection hotels. They are more expensive but I think will be worth the price.

Dear guest,

First of all we would like to thank you for your comments, they will help us to improve.

We are really sorry you didn't like the area where the hotel is; it is a typical area from Madrid; safe and good area.

Although our hotel is not an Autograph, we have a very good quality/Price relation.

We appreciate your comments.

Thank you and best regards,

A clean, modern hotel with good facilities and very conveniently situated for transportation links and sightseeing. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the main railway station for the airport bus and the nearest Metro station is around 200 yards away
The front desk staff were very helpful, especially Mar, and we were able to check in early and start sightseeing. Dinner was very good with excellent salad starters and good filling main courses from the compact menu. The buffer breakfast was also very good with a great selection of hot and cold foods and wonderful freshly squeezed orange juice.
Free wifi in the lobby worked well and the front desk staff will help if you struggle to get a connection.
One point to bear in mind is that there is another AC Hotel by Marriott in the nearby Calle Delicias, which is easily confused with the AC Carlton in Paseo de la Delicias.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the side street are quieter than those bordering the busy main road

Very close to Atocha train station. Perfect hotel if you need to catch an early morning train or flight (the airport shuttle picks up from the Atocha train station as well).

The metro station if a 5-minute walk and there's a grocery store nearby.

The staff were very friendly, especially the bartender. Very nice chap.

Very nicely decorated. Though soundproofing really needs improvement. I was up until midnight due to the noise from the traffic outside and the noise from the people in the room upstairs.

A food base if you are arriving or leaving from Atocha. The buffet breakfast was REALLY good especially after some of the pitiful ones we'd had earlier on our trip. We had a triple room and it was plenty big with loads of windows that opened to the street below. Very refreshing.
The day we checked out we were catching a night train and they happily extended our checkout time to 1pm so we wouldn't be "homeless" between hotel and train for quite so long.
This was without me directly asking them to do that.
They were very helpful with restaurant recommendation, taxi issues and whatever else we asked about. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

The superior room is small but cozy. Nice bathroom but no toothbrushes. There are only 3 machines in the fitness but anyway you will never find it crowded. The buffet breakfast is great ! The lifts are really small and slow and you will have only Wi-Fi in the lobby, not in the room. The staff is helpful but they talk too fast. The hotel is in the center but a bit far from the calle Gran Via.
