I never write bad reviews, but this hotel is just not a nice place to stay. The location is nice though. I stay in hotels all the time, and this is the worst one I've stayed in. My room didn't even have a window. The rooms are small and dark, and the room service menu is boring. The breakfast buffet is nothing special either.

I would rate this hotel just a bit under 4 stars.
There were good things and bad things…
My room was clean but a bit worn-out and there was a smell that stayed even after opening the window for the whole day.
I got a bed that was actually 2 single beds connected, I hate it.
The mattress was quite hard and the linens were pleasant – I don’t like it when the mattress is too soft and sometimes you feel the springs… this was not the case here.
The room itself is quite big for European hotels.
There was a nice LCD screen with 60 channels but only one channel in English: BBC news
You can hear people in the room next to you.
I could hear them slamming the door, in the shower and on the phone…At night time this can drive me nuts!
Since it is winter, the hotel air condition only works as heating so it is too warm and very dry….
I had to open the windows to get some fresh air inside.
The location is kind of center but you need to walk a few minutes in order to get to the main streets.
Not a bad choice to stay but not my cup of tea.

The experience of this hotel was terrible. I could probably forgive the fact that the rooms are dingy and not to a 4 star standard and the internet connection is ridiculously slow, if the staff were helpful. This was not the case. The staff at this hotel are among the worst hotel staff I have ever come across. They are rude, unhelpful and just plain horrible!

I enjoy staying at the Melia Galgos for the following reasons:

1. Good location by Calle Serrano in the Barrio Salamanca, the safest barrio in the center of town.

2. Wonderful breakfast buffet.

3. Friendly employees, also very professional.

I discovered another reason in my recent stay. There is a hotel restaurant called Diabolo in the basement. Never went there before because we are usually too busy and away from the hotel all day. However we tried it one day and were hooked, going there two more times.

The restaurant is spacious and elegant with pink marbleized walls. The food is very good and reasonably priced. There is a weekly menu that costs 26.50 euros, with a good variety of foods. Try the carrillera, a wonderful and very tender beef, with a great sauce that you will want to dry up with your bread!

This hotel is a few blocks from metro lines number 9 and 5. The hotel room very hot. They turn the AC off after the summer so there was no way to cool down the room, opening the window did not provide much relief. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms could have been cleanier, dirty carpet.

In November there was no ventilation in the room as only the heat was on and you are not able to open the window in the room without opening the curtains. A great deal of street noise made it difficult to sleep. The service at the front desk was unfriendly and they did the minimum. Ordering the same meal for room service two nights in a row resulted in two different charges. The internet service password didn't work, and then the hotel wanted to charge again for the new password.

I'm a business traveler and from the start I knew that this hotel was going to be a problem. Surly front desk staff. Terrible wi-fi service not included in the expensive room rate. When I complained about the slow, expensive wi-fi, the staff questioned me about the amount I was downloading.

The first room I was given was like a coffin -- no windows, no a/c. Was able to move to another room on the busy street so at least I had some ventilation thanks to a window -- but as another reviewer has mentioned - there doesn't appear to be a functioning HVAC system.

With plenty of other hotels to choose from, I don't plan to come back.

Old rusty iron provided grudgingly, no real hangers, no basic tv stations such as CNN International.
